Safe place to park for a night. If you park exactly in front of the 'Humberstone-gate', you are in sight of security cameras that are monitored the whole night by a security guard :)! You hear the sound of the highway in the distance.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Perfect to sleep before visiting Humberstone. We arrived at 6pm. Guardian said is ok. No problem, secure. Felt safe. Quiet night. Wind is less during the night. Cold at night but perfect. No restriction size. Big rig friendly. Many place.
Report Check-InSafe place to park and out of the wind. Guy in parking lot is not security. Will need to go to front desk to ask about parking.
Report Check-InWe stayed there 2 nights! We felt really secure with the camera in front of us and the man guarding the place. He was super nice, we gave him a tips before leaving in the morning. You can been seen from the main road but it is still quite, lots of dogs leaving around. For us the best option of the region! Don’t stay at Iquique.
Report Check-InWe stayed in a corner of the parking left from the entrance. The cars are hearable but otherwise it’s quiet and a good place to stay the night before the visit of Humberstone.
Report Check-Inquite night on the carpark next to the house of the security guard. The dogs were really curious while I was cooking in the back of my car, but very friendly.
Report Check-InWe stayed at the very end of the parking lot, close to the entrance road to Oficina Santa Laura. No barking, no cars early in the morning - quite.
Report Check-InGuard wanted us to park down a slope next to the side of his house but it was too slanted so he had us park in front of his house which is across the parking lot from the road. Free but we gave him a tip. Some barking dogs at his house. Ear plugs helped
Report Check-InWorks for an overnight. The couple that live across from the gate rescue dogs, and currently have 21 of them. They let them out in groups, and a few of them bark at cars, but the noise level seems about that of 3 dogs instead of 21, at night. A bit complicated for letting our dog out when a bunch of them were loose, but certainly manageable. Toss a couple rocks early on to establish your space (near them, not at them—they’re friendly), and they generally stay away. It’s definitely odd, but sounds worse than it is in my opinion. Glad we camped here to check out Humberstone in the morning.
Report Check-InJust a note for tent campers. You can also drive a few ks north of Humberton to decent free tent camping. Look for a building on the top of a hill to your left (west). Take the dirt road off the highway to reach the abandoned town, then drive up a few narrow tracks to pick a place on the hill. A downed steel cable will keep cars from getting all the way up, but motos and bikes can duck under. Plenty of highway noise, but if anyone wanted to approach you, you'd see them a long ways off. I had no trouble in my night there.
Report Check-Inwe visited humberstone and after we stayed over night on the parking area, opposite the gate. The next morning we visited also santa laura. Very interessting ! One ticket is valid for both locations.
Report Check-Inwe stayed the night before and after our visit to iquique zofri here. the guard told us where to park, so we are not anoyed by the many dogs. he told us it is no problem to stay here over night. so we will visit the site tomorrow...
