Description

Leave the tourist centra and enjoy a couple of days on this lovely campsite in a natural and quiet setting. lots of (small) trees, makes it feel like you're in a forest. Close to the entrance gate of Gorongosa NP. Sakkie is a great guy; he helped us where and how to drive from Vilanculos to his place and our onward journey to Malawi. Because of Renamo attacks etc. we were not sure about the safety situation. Its very safe though! Campsites have big fireplaces which they'll come to light every night, wood is provided. There's a open air kitchen with sinks. Clean ablutions with donkey showers. Great staff and a lovely& helpfull family. Price is by donation ;-)

Latest Check-Ins

The camping is not officially opened yet they still have to finished some parts (probably beginning of 2024). But it’s already a very nice place to stay. They have finished the toilets and shower (brand new), you have a shelter with sink and gas equipment, you also have a fire area at each spot. Very close to the entrance of the park, the owners are super nice and helped us to booked our safari (no self drive authorized in the park).
The gorongosa park is difficult to reach because of awful roads but it worth it, it’s a very beautiful park with different landscape and vegetation. Very few tourist so you will be alone most of the time. We saw in a 3h game drive : lions, wild dog, chacal, kudu, hundreds of waterbuck…

Beautiful spot just outside the National Park gates. Currently completing the renovations to the camp but ablutions are mostly done and beautiful. Quiet and serene as compared to the national park campground which is much more cramped. Beautiful brai pits and firewood included. Operating on a donation basis right now. Contact Piet on WhatsApp +27 82 875 5656. Piet and Ria are awesome hosts, also super helpful with route info and national park safari bookings.

Campsite is nice and quiet. Fireplace has table, firepit and plenty of wood. Ablutions are new, spacious and clean. There is a communal kitchen, but they are building a new one. Hosts Piet and Ria are very friendly and helpful.

What a pleasure to stay here. Yes, the amenities are a bit run down, but the owner says he wants to fix them up soon. We payed as a family of 5, 2000 mt for 3 nights. We would definitely recommend this place!

Report Check-In

Perfect stopover coming from the no, heading towards Malawi. Quiet campsite in the forest. The staff lit the Donkey shower and prepared a fire for us. We’re the second visitor in over a year. Sakkie doesn’t run the place anymore, message his father Piet on WhatsApp prior to arrival. +27 82 875 5656

Report Check-In

In the nice forest, several campsites, currently none there, I guess due to corona. For the ones who need it, even cellphone internet reception. Guys make fire with plenty of wood. Just arrived but so far a nice place! The Gorongosa campsite in the park was full when we arrived.

Report Check-In

Very nice rustic campsite, everything as described before (hot water, complimentary firewood etc). CALL TO BOOK, so there will be someone to clean and lit the donkey (I updated the number to the info: it’s +258 87 573 8836). We struggled to find the place according to the coordinates here: if you drive across the steel bridge, turn around and turn left. There are no signs currently. I’ll attach gps coordinates from Maps.me.

Nice Campsite. No people since months because of Corona but still open. They cleaned everything when we arrived and we had hot shower. We saw monkey in the evening.

Report Check-In

One of the nicest campsites that we stayed at in Mozambique. Staff supplied wood and lit the fire for us. Charcoal also available if needed. Donkey was on and hot water ready when we arrived. Good ablutions. Kitchen area very nice and protects you from flies. We hope to be back one day and also when Gorongosa NP is open.

Report Check-In

Nice basic campsite. We stayed for one night only. Ablutions okay. They started cleaning right after we arrived. Pay by donation, we gave 250MTZ per person per night

Report Check-In

Nice stopover. Stayed 1 night, staff cleaned immediately upon arrival and prepared ‘donkey’ for hot water. Gorogosa NP closed during rainy season but this camp gives you a nice intro. Payment by donation.

When we arrived there was nobody about and camp had a deserted feel to it but later Christian arrived later and quickly arranged a clean of toilets and lit the donkey boiler. Nobody had visited for the last 30 days. Payment by donation, we gave 250mets per person

Report Check-In

Ok, simple, campsite but ablutions not up to same standard as new ones in the Park camp. Nice staff. Charged us new price of 1,000 mets for two ppl, one night.

Fantastic camp, has everything you need. Hot showers, clean water, nice kitchen/dining area, fire pit with wood supplied free of cost, Generator power from 17:00-22:00. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Price is by donation - we paid Mt 500pppn Road is good from N1 as it’s been recently fixed after the Cyclone damage.

Report Check-In

A welcome refuge after the arduous trip from Vilanculos. A forested retreat in a camp that provided us with simple but clean facilities, far more than what we were expecting. We were attended to by the most pleasant staff , Christian and Daniel who made a fire for us and got the hot water going , not that we needed it.Payment is by donation.

Report Check-In

Planned to stay at the park but it was closed from mid December till April. Very good alternative although we came for the park of course.
Campsite very nicely done, very friendly staff. Fee per donation. Only flies and ants before the raisin are very annoying. Made us stay only one night.

Report Check-In

We saw a caretaker only 2 times in 2 days. Once when we arrived just after nightfall, he came running from somewhere (home?) and showed us where to camp and the ablutions and lit a fire. Next morning there was a guest book on our table. No one all day. In the evening, a different guy came to collect the guest book—we lit our own fire. The lights come on at night and stay on on until 11:30. No hot water, but that was ok since it wasn’t that cold.

Report Check-In

Nice place close to NP gates, hot donkey showers and nice kitchen area. Donation based.

Report Check-In

No signs so: turn right ~2-3km before the main park gate (at an abandoned building) drive straight until you see Van Zyl's name board and turn left. Staff were incredibly helpful, clean hot showers and wood provided. No grass but shady

Report Check-In

The place is indeed very nice, clean and has everything a proper campsite needs.
However when I was here, the nearby village disco played music from my arrival to 03.30am and from 05.30am to my departure. I prayed for a blackout but it didn't happen.

This place is very close to the gates of the Gorongosa NP so a good place to stop night before. When we arrived it was completely deserted and we were not even sure if it was operating. There are no signs. It is open though! Payment is by donation, from looking at the book a range of 300 -1000mets is typically paid. Ablutions are dark but the shower was warm. Some firewood provided. There are good braai /fire pits, lighting and a kitchen. Maybe with more visitors it will re-open properly. Overall a nice place for a night.
