This is NOT BLM land! It is private property which has been invaded by homeless camps. I had a long conversation with a local landowner who explained that the website postings are in error. They frequently put up No Trespassing signs and the homeless take them down. The locals do not have a good way to get rid of them. My husband and I stayed one time, thinking it felt unsavory there. The second time we were stuck for a place to stay so we went but were told by the local resident that none of the places on ioverlander along the dirt roads are blm land. He said that if you literally go overland, with no roads, several miles east beneath the craggy low mountains it is blm over there. But people go out and shoot and make it inhospitable there as well. Do not invade these peoples neighborhoods, they are having a bad time of it.
Report Check-InWide open space. Be cautious of strong winds and very large holes.
Report Check-InFree and beautiful when the sun brights up the morning and the moon comes up at night. My pup and I love it here and even had a nice Christmas Eve with some fellow travelers who invited us over. Thank God for BLM land :)
Report Check-InProbably the closest reliable boondocking to the north entrance of Joshua Tree NP. Be careful of private property; stay to the east of the power lines along Cascade Road, and north of Broadway. (According to a map provided on the Joshua Tree website, the actual BLM area is north of Sunflower Road, but a number of people were camped between Broadway and Sunflower and seemed to do fine.) Lots of rigs, probably more than 20 on a Sunday night in mid-November, but plenty of space. Additionally, note that the area to the north and east is a dry lake bed and may get muddy or flooded after rain. Verizon signal was adequate, although we did better with a cell booster.
Report Check-InGot here when the sun went down so it was hard for me to see if I was on private property, I definitely wasn’t. A lot of rigs dispersed throughout the area. It’s less than 5 miles from the town of Joshua Tree and about 10miles to the gates of the National Park. No issues here, great views and good for a couple of nights but definitely stock up on water & food so you don’t have to keep taking the dirt road out
