Description

If you are near here or passing, then this is a must. Steve and Cathy have a well-run beautiful lodge fronting on a sandy beach. The campground is near the lodge and has toilet, shower and solar lights. The cost is $10 US per person. There are many activities like fishing, diving, kayaking, to name a few. In short - a must-visit oasis. You have to buy wifi

We highly recommend this quite secluded paradise. The beauty of an Island holiday but not the busy beaches. Owners and their son Simon.super friendly and helpfull, also on giving tips for scenic routes.Camping 10$pppn, beautiful coral reefs to snorkel or dive at your own pace, enjoy a sundowner deck. We did not have to pay for wifi, but was slow.

Honestly one of our favourite spots in the east africa leg of our trip.

We arrived at Fish Eagle and were a little bit ‘meh’ straight off, BUT after an hour or two of exploring we realised that there is a lot to appreciate in this spread out little adventure land.

If you need Wi-Fi, electricity and cellphone connection in camp then this place isn’t for you. If you need hundreds of meters of snorkelling opportunities above decent (not overwhelming) coral as well as through mangrove channels then this is the place for you. You have to swim out a bit for coral and a couple hundred metres for mangroves.

Snorkelling is free and kayaks are very reasonable. Scuba diving also available.

Cellphone reception is available but touch and go except for 4bar on the opposite side to the camp (kingfisher deck which is also great for sundowners). Wi-Fi is technically for lodge guests.

Campsites in the mangroves can be a little muggy but not if you sit under the huge thatched lapa provided with each campsite. We found the mangroves to be pleasantly cool at night with the tent flaps up and mozzie nets down. We chose the furthest campsites from the toilets which we didn’t regret.

The staff welcomed us campers again and again to the lower restaurant/bar area without pushing us towards it and Nema and all the staff were stars!

Dirt road in was very good condition, last bit was a bit more bumpy but manageable for most cars (car in front of us was a small sedan)

Bucket showers are cold but honestly quite refreshing with the coastal temps. Also made us very aware of water useage which is a precious resource in these parts. Flushing toilets, but you should bang the toilet door each time before entering otherwise a possie of geckos will surprise you and make you scream :)

Disappointed. Having negotiated what was claimed to be "good" gravel from the main road but turned out to be rough crushed coral we arrived at the campsite to find zero shade under which to position our camper. We can handle not having mains power, wifi, an on site tap etc but being on a site in full sun, bucket showers and no view of the beach for $10 pppn is not value for money in our view when compared with other places. We didn't stay.

Absolutely idyllic stay over for three nights after crossing into Tanzania from Kenya. We were told camping is full so opted for a chalets all incl. total eco friendly huge respect & consideration for the marine and flora environment. Highly recommend.

Make sure to message Simon in advance (number in a below comment) they do not like people showing up or day visitors. They have taken the signs down off the main road as they are not in the market for day visitors and we’re getting too many.
Cool spot, not what we expected for campsites. Thought they were on beach, however just back a little in bush’s with no view. Pretty tight for rooftop top tents, but they will make something work as long as they know you are coming. Bucket shower on a pulley which were absolutely fine for us. Good flushing toilets. The restaurant is a 7-10min walk from camp spot and they bay is better over there. Very cool we spot where restaurant is and great Pina Coladas! Lots of activities

We stayed here a couple of nights on our way from the Kenya border, South. Stunning place and well worth the visit. Give yourself some time. 2 nights was too short for us. The cottages and camp all great. Lovely communal area. Highly recommend.

This is a must visit location! it was our final stop after 2 months exploring Tanzania and what a wonderful place to end at. We arranged our stay by WhatsApp +255687680890 the day before as its important to book first and they were incredibly helpful even arranging a fresh baked loaf of bread to be ready for us. This is the most special and magical location, remote and wild, cold bucket showers (not a problem at sultry temperatures of 30+) but flushing toilets. Shadey campsite on the beach, each pitch has a thatched banda but no electricity (again we have a solar panel) and at night we were visited by bushbaby, genet cat and a huge pouch cheeked rat. The bay at the lodge is stunning with lovely decking areas and swimming in crystal clear, warm water. when the tide is out you can snorkel on the reef which had lots of interesting fish, starfish, crabs and the colours are coming back thanks to the owners conservation efforts. You can.also snorkel amongst the mangroves when the tide is right. plus plenty of other water activities. Highly recommend a stay here. 10 USD pppn.

Entry refused without prior reservation. So I got refused to enter.... Interesting business model, especially for hospitality and in this kind of time when there's basically no clients

We were a little bit disappointed after all the good comments. There is no view from the campsite(mangrove forest) and because of the high and low tide it is hard to take a dive in the ocean. But of course the view of the bay from the picknick tables is great and it is a beautiful place. The ablutions are very basic, you fill a bucket to take a (cold) shower. It is clean but looks a bit runned down.

Spectacular place. We were the only people there and the lodge was closed at time of visit. Campsite is well run, neat and organised. We chose a spot overlooking the beach although there are plenty shaded spots too. Really amazing views... We only had one night but wished for more. Peponi is harder to get to but more family friendly at time of visit. We preferred this one but come prepared if the lodge is closed as there is no signal or food etc. The caretaker organised us some extra drinking water from the village which was so kind as we had very little on us. Highly recommend this beautiful place if you're looking for a quiet place to relax and unwind.

Great location with amazing snorkeling, fishing and Kayaking in and around the beautiful mangroves. Campsite ablutions under renovation and pretty basic but we would still highly recommend the spot. USD10 per adult, 5 per child. Kids absolutely loved it. Friendly staff and owners happy to share local knowledge which is always appreciated. Low season still - we were the only people there.

Really secluded place. There’s a camping area big enough for 50 people and some 12 or so bungalows. All very spread out. Walking from the camping area to the restaurant is a good 10 minutes.

If you want secludedness - this is your spot! We weren’t really in the mood for it and went to Peponi Beach Resort just 2 hours south, and liked that far better.

A lot of tidal water in this region. Unfortunately this means that you might have to walk a good 15 minutes if you want to have a swim when the tide is low.

Owners are really nice people!

An incredibly beautiful Place !
Really great hosts! Very clean, friendly staff and beautifully decorated Rooms. Ideal for motorbike riders as a stopover from Kenya heading south. Taking a motorcycle with you into the Carlett is allowed.😀
Thank you for the good Time

Report Check-In

The place is surely nice with the view and nice feeling. It’s obvious that camping is secondary. Overlanders are not allowed in the pool area and not allowed on the WiFi. Our first spot on the Tanzanian coast and not really impressed but maybe this is the best you get as an overlanders here.

We did have dinner and the food was really nice, also the staff is nice and the owner gave a very good welcoming.

Absolutely loved this place, it is like a paradise in Africa. Camped right next to the beach. Grass mats provided, showers are bucket showers with fresh rain water. Ablutions are clean. Water and snorkeling incredible could stay here for a month. Chalets, restaurant and bar available. Lovely owners. We will definitely be back even if we have to fly here.

Pure nature straight on the ocean. The campsites are just a short walk to the beach (no sea view). Amazing snorkeling with big corals and hidden beaches. Diffrent spots to swim at low and hide tide. 10$ppn. Nearby village to buy veggies and fruits. Bring enough drinking water. Only rainwater in the camp. Saltwater showers and basic facilities. What a stunning place, stayed 2 Weeks :)

Report Check-In

At the moment camping is not really possible. The whole campground is under construction and showers were only cold. They wanted to charge us 10$ pppn. We didn't stay. Renovations shall be finished in July.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot, mangroves and beaches, nice and remote. Well managed and owners on the right path with marine conservation and community involvement. Loved it.

Report Check-In

Closed at our arrival. We were not allowed to drive in so we camped directly in front of the barrier. The access road is bad but no problem for our Unimog or bigger trucks. You should check ahead during the rainy season.

Report Check-In

From the turn off of the main road you will find the place after 10km and 30-40min driving. Accessroad is mainly coral stone. The campsite is in the mangrove bush, 1 minute to the sea, 5min to the bar. 10$pppn. The lodge for 85$pppn with full board. Only salty water in campsite bathrooms. In january-february strong northerly winds, so no fishing, snorkling, diving.

Fantastic lodge and camp site run by ex Zimbabweans. By far the best beach side camp that we have found on our travels in East Africa.
