Description

Large, flat, and quiet. There is a large space next to the river for wild camping. A small access point down to the river in which small cars can park next to, but it's safer up top. to access this area, take the road on the right, just before the single lane bridge (driving towards the Peru border). you will pass one small side road to the river, but keep going another few minutes or so for a better spot. small street lamp at night. spoke to the family closest and they said it's safe here and the water is clean. driftwood available for a fire. **WARNING** everyday around 8am the dam is closed to create a small lake up stream. DO NOT camp past the dam.

Stayed here before we crossed into Peru. The restaurant is only open Saturday and Sunday but the owner was nice and let us use the bathroom and told us it’s very calm here at night and it was okay to stay! The bugs were a little annoying but not so bad that we didn’t want to stay!

Stayed here the night before we drove to Peru. It was good spot, quiet, and had a lot of space. It‘s also possible to go swimming in the river.

Good place for us to stop on the way to Peru border. River was raging a bit, so very loud. But quiet peaceful night. Restaurant was open on Sat and Sun, not sure about during the week. No Claro service, but rest has WiFi which I presume you could use if you ate there.

Still a great option! There’s a nice, new restaurant there now too. Nobody was in it, but the toilets and a shower were open all night. We chatted to the man in the blue and white house beside the dam and he said no problem, but no fires allowed in this area. River access to swim! It’s quite bright at night with the spotlights on the dam, if that bothers you. There’s also a gated balanerio on the way in on that road that has washroom, could be another option. Good spot and free! Keep it clean!
