Description

we took this road to go from Bahia Salinas to Liberia as directed by maps.me and our GPS. More than ten Creek crossing that were not so bad but at 600 metres from the end, we got stuck in clay mud and had to use our winch to get out. Didn't continue to highway as road got much steeper and we didn't think we'd get up. Turned around and went left here: 11.01539, 85.67316 where it says "to Liberia"!!!! and it's a paved road. Neither of our systems showed this road.

Latest Check-Ins

We did the steep section- no problem here, the big rocks are helpful for good traction

but
There is a big deep hole on the way out- really tight
… but no worries we made it wider 😉😏

Report Check-In

the view is nice and it is very clean. We liked to cross the rivers but 800m before the end we had to turn around because if a steep hill very muddy! go there only if you are sure of your car!!

Google maps brought us there. And same as other comment here, 600m to the main road we got stuck. The soil was dry, but too many deep “holes” and later, although road is better is steeper. Of course our heavy camper with no 4x4 would not pass. but the problem was, because we were too heavy and too big to make a curve on the road we had to call a “crane” (grua) to rescue us (lucky us we had internet). We were afraid the camper brake would not be enough to stop it or that we may flip. It was a day lost on it. Ps: we also heard that is not safe to be at night in this area due to the animals.

BE CAREFUL WITH THIS PLACE. We had to be towed out and the winge guy said that last week a 4x4 flipped upside down when trying to go Up with the road being muddy.

Report Check-In

Passed without problems in a 4Runner, but 4x4 is definitely necessary. As original post stated there are a few creek crossings and the road does get very steep at one point, but it’s only a couple hundred meters before it levels out again. It’s mostly mud / clay, so could be tougher in rainy season.
