Description

Awesome camp site on Trail Canyon. We were the only campers around for miles of emptiness. Free dispersed camping in NP if you pay the entrance fee or have an annual pass. See map for allowed dispersed camping, available at Visitor centre.

Latest Check-Ins

Traveled up Cottonwood Canyon to 7.8 miles right at the point where you drop down into the wash. The drop in and trail was too washed out from the last rain for our Dodge Ram 2500 to negotiate comfortably so we stayed two nights at the plateau on the right.
And it turned out it was way better than the 8 mile point would have been. We even had a second van join us the second night. No one bothered or cared that we weren’t at the 8 miles in mark for camping.
Great views all around, cool star gazing and awesome sunrises from this point. We mountain biked up the canyon about 8 miles. It was a mild incline all the way and a great ride all the way down home without peddling!!

This is the wrong name. It is not on Trail Canyon but on Cottonwood Canyon Road. On the first 8 miles of terrible sandy washboard (the road hasn't seen a grader for some time!) dispersed camping is not allowed on this track because it is still part of the valley floor; so first camping possibility is after 9 miles. There are several other good spots for smaller rigs further up the track before the actual canyon entrance or around and after the turnoff to Marble Canyon all the way to the end of Cottonwood Canyon road. I stayed at N 36.64546, W 117.28321 because I wanted early morning sun (in winter). No shade, so probably too hot in summer. Fires prohibited outside official campgrounds. Avoid any canyon with even the slightest risk of rain. Get map and detailed infos on back country camping at Furnace Creek Visitor Center.
