Off the main road through gate. 2 km private road then BLM land. Nice spot road a bit rough.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Decent spot. The NE parts of Canyon of the Ancients is better views, but this is still nice and secluded. As others mentioned, the turn is a bit passed where Google takes you, open gate and close gate, then drive up rocky road to this spot.
Report Check-InFollowed as the directions stated, arrived to the road, opened the gate, got in, and closed the gate. There are a few sharp rocks on the way in that make it a bit tricky to get through. It is a bit difficult to find a level spot in a shorter vehicle, and kept moving around to where the slant wouldnt be too bad on my bedside. First time boondocking in the 'woods' (east coast is usually cracker barrels), I was worried about bears, but didnt come across any. There were some cows alongside the road as I was leaving in the morning. Heres my photo of the big dipper. The views were stunning, I believe only 1 vehicle drove by and that was it.
Report Check-InWent slightly farther than the original spot because someone was already posted there, but nice quiet area -like others have said, about 1.5-2mi down a private road past a gate (be sure to close behind you). Would stay again :)
Report Check-InVery nice place! We decide to camp on the left side after this point since it was more sunny evening and morning. The landscape are beautiful!
Report Check-Ingreat quiet place. about 10 people drove by over the weekend. made it with a 40' schoolbus. But as we parked in one of the first spots I clipped a bigger rock and blew a tire. no signal on t-mobile. on Monday we limped back into cortez and got it changed at four states tire. perfect for any vehicle with any ok clearance. you will need a bit more if you go left off the main road about 100 yards after the sign, but its wide open and beautiful. the app isn't letting me give it more than 2.5 stars. careful though, the kids found an baby rattlesnake that spent its evenings on the rocks !!!!!
Report Check-InGreat spot, The beginning of the dirt road to get to these sites is directly southwest of the location given by ioverlander on County Road G. There's a BLM sign saying "private land stay on road" behind an unlocked gate. Just open and shut the gate and stay on the road North to get to the BLM land.
