Stayed here for two nights. Got $8 pass per each 24 hrs at the Visitor Center before the Roosevelt Dam (M-F 8-430)They said you can also purchase pass at lower burnt corral campground machine, but it would be $12. For Upper, there is about 8-10 sites. I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely big rig friendly, there is. 30’ here, he would have limited options. If big rig, your best bet may to be stick right for a big sand parking lot to bundle into. Keeping left brings you to a 4-5 unlevel beach spots… road in is a bit rough, but doable. Regardless a great spot! Happy to be here.

Pin is at Upper Burnt Canyon, which is a primitive style campsite. Lower Burnt Canyon is the next turn south of here, which is a more traditional style campground and is more expensive. Permit required, which you can obtain at a kiosk at entrance of Lower, or at the Visitor Center near the dam on Roosevelt. Road to this point was recently graded and is in great shape, doable in 2WDLC. We camped right on the lakeshore, and this spot is fantastic, very peaceful on a Friday. Limited services in Upper, only pit toilets. Lower has water spigots with threads to fill up using a hose, one at site 34 (host site), and at the bathroom just across from it.

Really lovely spot right on the Apache Lake off the Apache Trail. $8 per car. One pit toilet that was pretty full and another nicer pit toilet up at the entrance. There are "camp sites" with some fire pit rings, but I think when it's busy it's a free for all. You will have to level off your vehicle for sleeping. To camp here you need a Tonto Pass per vehicle per night and they must be purchased prior to arrival. A regular recreation pass for Arizona is not acceptable. We picked up two passes at the ice cream store in Tortilla Flats. You can't miss it. It has a dead guy hanging and swinging on top. The Town is old west themed. As of August 2017 there are pay machines at more developed camp sites with in the Tonto National Forest and they cost more. This is Lower Burnt Corral, but just before this place you pass a more developed camp ground called Burnt Corral and it has a pay machine and I think it's $12 to camp at that spot. All this took a lot of confusing research. A ranger did come by to check passes on a weekday. It's $100 fine if you don't have one or you forget to scratch your date of use. This was a bit of annoying run around especially after being in Mexico and Central America for the last 500 days but I'm very glad we figured it out and camped here. It's really beautiful. The lake is cold but very swim -able. Everything was quite and peaceful. If you have a water craft and want to take it out on the water that is another fee, but can be purchased when you get your pass. You can fish here too, but that's another license. You can float for free on an air mattress. In October the temps were great. This is the warmest place we camped in weeks. Dogs allowed. Any vehicle over 40 feet in length or 10 tons are not allowed to drive on the Apache Trail road and watch your speed there are cops monitoring this HWY.

Situated on Apache Lake in the Tonto Natl Forest. Approximately 80 sites, several with privacy. Very pretty. Great stopping point along the Apache Trail drive.
