We had to spend a night at Chitipa before crossing into Zambia and found this motel that offers clean rooms for MKW 5000 (double room) and camping for MKW 2000 pppn. The managers are very friendly. It is simple but the place is spacious. Rooms are on-suite. We even had warm showers.
We did not get diesel at the Puma filling station in Chitipa (only petrol).

Good place for a stop over before/after crossing the border. You will camp at the parking lot and get a key to a room to use your own shower/toilet. There’s some noise from the bar next door. Friendly guard and well fenced. Paid MKW3000 pp.
Report Check-InGood place to camp in town, well fenced safe precinct. Bit noisy, but expected as it was a Friday evening, although it got quite later in the night. We paid MWk10,000 for 4 adults and 2 vehicles with trailers for the night. Friendly staff, gave us one of the rooms to use bathroom. Very basic, but clean, unfortunately no hot water. Good stop-over after we spend 8 hours driving down the escarpment from Nyika NP, challenging roads with beautiful scenery. Chitipa has 2 well stocked shops and the Meru filling station on the M20 east had petrol and diesel. National bank accepted VISA for cash withdrawal.
Report Check-InCouldn't find motel at this GPS location, it is in town on the dirt road towards Niyika NP. Friendly staff. Key to bathroom, cold water shower. The whole
evening and beginning of the night people arrive, to get sleep for a few hours so not very quiet and early in the morning 5 a.m. they start washing the cars... But fine for a stopover. Paid 5 USD for RTT (2 persons).
We stayed 1 night here as we arrived at the border too late without cash and banks were closed. 2000pppn we got access to a room to shower and use the bathroom. There is a simple and local bar round the back with limited but cold drinks.
