A few guys stopped us on the highway under a bridge pretending they worked for Aduana. They asked for our TIP papers, probably going to "help" us get our $300 deposit back. They flashed some not-so-official looking badges. We didn't give them anything and drove away.

100% a scam. We told them we were going to the beach and they stopped pressing us for papers. There are multiple locations for scam stops like this.
Report Check-InStill there. Claiming they work for aduana. Not sure what the scam is but this is the first time anyone has made such an effort to, allegedly, refund me money. Seemed really suspicious so just drove away.

Report Check-InI will add to other comments.. these guys were scammer and tried to get our TVIP but my European friend has been through the situation before and told me not to waste my time so we ignored them and pressed on. Good thing it started to rain and these guy didn't even have any vehicle to "escort" us to the border. Don't know what they were thinking because how can they get their deposit back if the adana were going to issue refund via credit card unless they intend to take away your paperwork then blackmail you into paying to get your paperwork back.. Whatever you do, don't bother because you are supposed to check your TVIP in at the border, not 20-30 miles before the border.
