Description

Please read recent comments. Please pay and behave like a civilized person in your hosting country…

If you are heading towards Senegal, keep in mind that the border to Diama closes at 18:00. Make sure you give yourself extra time to get past this stop.

If you are entering the park, wild camping is possible, and the guards will be happy to show you where.

Make sure you have Ougouiya left when leaving Mauritania - and already in your pocket when coming from Senegal.
Friendly NP employee and a military guy who asked for a „fiche“.

Report Check-In

The ticket price is 200 MRU p.P.
But if you don't have MRU yet, he demanded 15€ or 10,000 CFA for 2 persons, which is calculated at a very bad rate.
We only had 7000 CFA left, but he didn't agree and preferred to let us drive without paying

It is a national park and like most parks in the world We gladly paid a few coins to preserve this place. Official and legal with receipt.

OMG of course its a scam... After arguing 5 min with the ranger, the gendarme ended up taping the ranger´s shoulder and told him to let us go... If you want to pay 5 euros a person for using the nastiest road ever, just because that one is following the boundries of a run down "National Park", that is YOUR problem but please dont misinform others travelers. You are just trying to get to Senegal, u are not enjoying any "nature". Dont pay anything. It is NOT because there is a receipt that a fee is legitimate.

I don’t know why so many overlanders think they are getting scammed or that they can bend the law. You are in the NO and if you rush through or explore is your own choice, the entrance fee is the same. Believing you don’t need to pay is like going to a spa center without paying because you didn’t use the pool… It’s official, you get a reciept, you use the infrastructure (road). I uploaded a picture of the ticket to hopefully end the negative experiences the poor guy has to make every day with foreigners…

the Guy of the park end his shift at 18h, we pass trough at 19h so we didn't have to pay the fee, only the gendarmeríe checkpoint

I agree it’s normal to pay the fee. This is not a ‘scam’. The road to the border goes alongside the national park, which is a nice bonus! You can say you’re going directly to the border and probably not pay (I guess this is what the debate is about on here), but we strongly recommend spending some time in the National park! We saw so many beautiful birds. They are obviously managing it quite well as the wildlife is absolutely thriving which is beautiful to see (and when we’re we’re there a traveller had been caught for hunting a warthog), personally we were more than happy to pay the fee.

here you will find gendarmerie and national Park fee. so it s normal to pay the 200 MRU /people free for children. give us a receip. may be you could ask to not pay if you only transit. but it s not so expensive just if you mean how the job to keep the dike in not so bad shape.

We passed at 7:45 pm. There was only a man from gendarmerie, he asked for 'fiche'. Nobody asked for park fee. We spend the night betwen this point and the border in a field.

Report Check-In

Yes we passed here too and they demanded money in the dark evening , we made excuses that we did not have any left and we might be stuck at the border, so they let us pass

DO NOT PAY! They are going to be insistant but this is totally fraud and you don’t have to pay a thing. Hold your ground! We were with a bus of Mauritanians, including one man who is Dutch and Mauritanian so they were ask him to pay too. He did most of the talking for us which was lucky, but we have passed more of these kind of scams than we can count coming up through west Africa. Unless you’re going into the park, don’t pay a thing.

DON'T PAY!!!
we didn't pay anything and our friend passed also without paying. Police officer told him not to pay and that what he said to park ranger. Don't pay!

Report Check-In

There is a police post and booth for entance fee for the park.
Police will ask your passport first. Then you pay Oguyna 200 pp.
You get a receipt and your passport back.
It gives a feeling that it is a bit of a set-up! The receipt looks oké, but there is no copy for the governement to check, so......... :-( feeling.

Report Check-In

We arrived late at the toll gate. The policeman allowed us to stay for the night next to the booths, for free.
Next morning, the same policeman was there but with an additional ranger. He asked for a park fee for our kids (althrough it was free for kids 12h before) and also asked us to pay for the night. After some quiet discussions, we ended up with a fee (200 MRU note) for only 1 kid and a free nightcamp.

Park fee stop. 2,000 og PER PERSON. Or you can pay €10 pp or 5,000 CFA pp.

Weren't stopped to pay anything here but did get to the border after dark (nearly 7pm). No problem with camping at the border though, they let us setup right outside the Douane, we'll be sure to get up and packup early at least.

When Passing to Diama, you'll be stoped here by a guy taking 2000 Oguya Tourist taxes per person here. Make Sure you have Oguya with you. After 40 minutes i also was able to pay in Dirham, but much more expensive then.

The border to Diama closes at 18:00 so make sure you have enough time. You may be loosing some here.
