Description

Wild camp spot on the beach in an unfenced, unmarked vacant lot accessible via a short dirt road. There is a government sign indicating this beach is a sanctuary for sea turtles, El Verde Camacho, and should stay free of garbage. Obviously nobody cares as evidenced by tons of garbage thrown around. We picked up three large bags around our spot but gave up after an hour. Maybe if we all do that, we can eventually have an acre of free garbage-free beach paradise :)

Note the train passes a few times a day about 300 metres behind. It's loud. There are also several other boondocking sites in vacant lots along that beach road that could accommodate RVs but all vehicles including 4x4s should stay off the beach itself as the sand is very soft, unless you are looking for a permanent location for your rig. Trust me, I know ;)

Latest Check-Ins

Spent 3 nights here with no problems. The trains only go by a couple of times, so no noise problem. Police did stop by and asked if I felt safe staying there. I said I was fine and introduced them to my dog. They told me I would be ok staying here. But no problems at all, been sleeping with the door open and just the screen door as it's hot. I am parked in the vacant lot that is for sale. I do lid not go down to the beach (didn't want to get stuck) I would recommend no vehicles larger than what I drive to park here. I am in a 25' Class C towing a car. The lot is over grown so nothing bigger recommended. We spent many long hours on the beach. Best sunsets! The beach area is usually deserted, except for an occasional fisherman. Very nice and quiet even over the weekend. easy driving distance to Mazatlan tourist area.

the police arrived at dusk. communication was an issue, but basically they were saying this area was dangerous (drug related) and that the city was a better choice.

they thanked us for leaving. fantastic place to go for a swim during they day though!

Spent one night here no problem. There is maybe room for one or two rigs. This area seems to be developing - lots of large houses in view of the site. We went into Mazatlan for a day then came back to the site that evening. Police knocked on the van and said it wasn't safe. We had to leave. Checked a few places in the city, settled on a dark parking lot and we're unsettled by voices right outside the van all night. Next day ran into a couple who spent the night on the Malecón who said they felt safe there.

Beach itself is clean just the surrounding area looks like local dump. When the wind dies down the no-see-ems come out. Otherwise ok spot to spend the night before or after Mazatlan.

Amazing little paradise!!!! This spot is sooo beautiful, it really feels like we have the beach for us alone. We slept here three nights with no problem. We changed to another spot because we don't feel safe to stay too long at the same place but we really enjoyed our time here. Many people came early in the mornings for fishing and during the day time too. Even though we were sleeping somewhere else, we still came back two other times to chill and have a swim.

You have to take a little road (easy to drive with a 2wd) to access the spot and only one car at a time is able to pass. Be aware that if something bad happens to you, you don't have any exit except this road so you don't want someone to block it. The second exit would be the beach itself but you definitely need a 4x4 if you want to go there. You are far enough from the resorts so it's perfect if you want to relax and be alone but keep in mind that you are not so close from people if you need help.

PS: We fulled the van with five large plastic bags that we used to clean the beach. Now we mostly don't see any thrash, would be nice to keep this area clean:)))))
