Description

This camp is a must visit, very hospitable and friendly owner who lives on site, he has an emphasis on keeping the place natural. He owns the surrounding cacao farm, and also grows many fruits like bananas, papayas, coconut and avocados.

Located on the Sassandra river, we saw Manatees multiple times and also took a tour up river to see the hippos. From the camp you can also observe King fisher birds. We paid 5000 per night to stay in our camping car, there are basic bungalows and also possible to pitch a tent. Bucket shower and toilet available, or swim and wash in the river. They make local food or you can make your own.

The owner cares about wildlife and is very enthusiastic about showing his place and what he is growing, genuinely friendly, he made a great effort to speak some English to us, he is happy to learn.

The path to reach the camp is not on the map, from the main road you will see a sign for Camping Zalpha, from here you take the track through a small village and into the farm. The track is a little thin and bumpy in places but we had no problem with our long sprinter 2wd, but anything bigger than this would probably struggle.

If you want food, let him know you are coming as he can’t stock supplies without a fridge.

Latest Check-Ins

One of the best place along the coast. André is very kind and interesting, we loved the time we spent there. Food is also delicious and not expensive.

Report Check-In

We stayed here for 3 nights. André, the owner, is extremely nice and speaks some English. The price is still 5000 CFA per night, importantly, with three meals a day included. André can also show you the surroundings of Sassandra and organize a trip to (maybe) see some hippos (25000 CFA). Manatees live in the river next to the campsite and can also be observed occasionally. It's also possible to swim in the river, to cool down during the day!

Report Check-In

Nice campground at the river. Very friendly owner André, who is helpful with all questions.
5000CFA for slepping in the own campervan / night.
Meals passible, but order in advance.

Still they have no fridge or electricity, so you need to bring your own staff loaded.

The road is a piste and in parts very small.
But we did it with our Unimog (Hight 3,40m, Wide 2,30m and Length 6,50m) without problems, too.

Piece of paradise! Beautiful setting!
André is a great host and smart guy enjoying spending time with his guests. We stayed 2 nights and could have stayed forever!
You can watch manatees while sitting at the breakfast table, enjoy beautiful nature around and swim in the river.
André took us to see the hippos 🦛
We stayed in a bungalow which was very comfortable as the wind blew through and cooled it down. Had a nice campfire and a perfect time. Highly recommended!
(Good orange 4G coverage but only limited possibilities to charge devices, the camp relies on solar power, so bring full batteries)

Bungalow for two: 10.000/night
Dinner (we had frog): 5.000/dish
Breakfast: 1500
Hippos: 20.000 per boat

Easy to find if you follow the main track once you crossed the village.

Report Check-In

When we arrived at Andre's place, we were received as family: after installing our camper, we were offered a seat with a view in the shade, and a pitcher of fresh palm wine to start with. Fresh coconuts followed. We were so well taken care of, that this overnight stay turned into a memorable three night experience.
although the road to reach Zalpha is a bit overgrown and washed out, one can see that Andre is working hard in turning his place into a little paradise. Definitely worth a visit!

We just came here to see the riverside and the kakao and been surprised by the great hospitality of André. They handed us coconuts and papayas while we were watching the manates in the river. Also André arranged a excellent lunch with freshly caught crabs for us. Even if we did not stay for the night because of a tight travelschedule we can realy recommend this place.
