Avoid giving your original cards/documents
Jan 2020 - still an active checkpoint.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
A few police but didn’t even look at us. They were busy with a car.
Report Check-InStill here coming into Merida they just wave you thru. Nothing going out of Merida
Report Check-InPolice just waved us through on the way to Merida- no questions, no search.
Report Check-In16. June 2022, Thursday, 7:40 am
Police Officers stayed on the side to Merida.
Asking foreigners where we came from and where we are going. Waved through
Report Check-Inpassed through, with foreign plates and no plate in the front... just said hello and we passed. in the rain too, so maybe they didn't feel like searching.
Report Check-InTo avoid this checkpoint we took the old MEX180 a few kilometers before and had no issues on our way to downtown.
Report Check-InThe check point was there but they did not bother a out us despite our foreign license plates and van. Lucky Sunday?
Report Check-InActive check point but we just breeze through no problem. We will see when go back later this afternoon.
Report Check-InWe have been pulled out and our car was searched for drugs and weapons for about 5 minutes. They also checked TIP for the car, license docs and our tourist card and passports.
They Cops were friendly and relaxed, even one cop showed us his Mayan tattoos 😁
After overall 10 minutes we were free to go. No bother.
Pulled us over as soon as they saw the foreign plates. Wanted all original documents (would not accept copies) and our physical original plates — we use copies on the outside to avoid theft. Did a thorough search of the car and pulled out some allergy medication and had to asked the boss whether it was okay. They were friendly, spoke a little English, a little overzealous, but not corrupt.
Report Check-InDriving towards Campeche at 2:30pm today. Checkpoint is there but we were not stopped (there was a van but no officers on the road on our side). seem to be more focused on the Mérida-bound lane as looked like an xray set up and more officers on that side.
Report Check-Inpretty thorough search of the car. Also accused us of using drugs because our hands were shaking. said they were going to get the dog, but I think they are just bluffing. They asked for coca cola before we left. Weird group of corrupt officers.
Report Check-InChecked in the van, opened drawers, opened dog food, asked for original licenses, copies of passports were ok, asked to see car paperwork, asked about drugs/guns, took photos of all of our documents for ‘internal records’ apparently. Since they took pics we asked to take pic with them and did so in front of the van :) they were all super nice in general just the most we’ve been looked at in 2 months traveling all over Mexico.
Report Check-InJust a couple questions, where are you driving from, where are you from, then waved through
Report Check-InWe passed by just as they were all gathering in the shade to eat. They looked up but did not walk away from the food. Whew.
Report Check-Insame thing happened to us. the policeman watched hands and smelled them. he asked us about papers not only the copis, wanted to see the originals. nothing happened.
Report Check-InWhilst everything turned out okay in the end, this was a really weird checkpoint for us. The officer sniffed my husbands hands, accused him of shaking and that he was smoking marijuana. Said he was getting the dogs but then didn't. Anyway, after standing our ground they waved us on. Weird.
Report Check-InPolice check, pulled us over, few questions (where were we from, where were we traveling from and to) checked driving licence and sent us on our way. No problems, routine check. Lots of smiles
