Description

AFASI foundation is an amazing place which takes care of wild animals which had been victims of illegal smuggling and domestication.
They are always happy for visitors who pay 25bol entry fee to gain some financial aid for the place.
it's not really a tourists attraction, you can't buy any food or drinks there (even though they offer you a lemonade to drink). it's not set up for tourists really but it's so worth visiting!

It's is runned by a Swiss-Bolivian couple. they have parrots, toucans, pumas, wild cats, lots of monkeys. the enclosures are big and they continue on enlarging the cages.

you get to learn a lot there, also about the sad reality why these animals can't life in freedom anymore.

!!Just don't follow Google maps indications on how to get there unless you have 4x4!! also, even though they do receive visitors, they do not have a reception, so just let them know you are on the way and they send you the best indications on how to arrive depending from which side you are coming!!

If coming from Santa Cruz, I’ve attached directions to arrive the correct way, please contact the owner to schedule a tour beforehand.

This is not a zoo. Urs really cares about these animals. You will have some silly interactions with the capuchins. He has a number of them that roam free on the property. He instructed us to lock our car doors so the monkeys do not break in and steal things.

Urs speaks English and Spanish, although his accent is pretty difficult in either language, being Swiss.

We had an incredible time and we were able to have very close interactions with the animals. We paid 200Bs for the 2 hour tour and we felt it was well worth it. All the money will go to feed the animals.
