Description

Furthest South you can drive on contiguous continent.

There is not much to see at the end of the road, apart from three road signs. Moreover, the area around is in a rather poor condition and definitely not beautiful. And last but not least, if you expect some end of the world feeling, this is the wrong location for that, since the place is rather touristic.

This is start of hike to lighthouse.

Plan on 1.5 hr drive from Punta Arenas. Last kilometers is ripio with potholes and some washboard. Furthest south you can drive on the contiguous continent, and the beginning of the hike to Dan Isidro lighthouse.

Nice drive to come here, end of the road, low season, we sleep here in our van. very quiet, only few hiker during the day.

Nice sunset.

we do the hike to the lighthouse, and feel like the end of the world. snowing a little, strong wind, we saw dolphin and sea lion.

I think this is in the wrong location. Mount tarn is at the end of Route 9 going south from Punta arenas. Not on Tierra Del Fuego.

We really enjoyed this beautiful hike which made us think of on of our first hikes on Vancouver island. If you want it more it adventurous, go with high tide and you have to climb over fallen trees and jump over small rivers. Otherwise its an easy stroll on pebble beach.
But indeed; if you want an end of the world feeling, better wait for the apocalypse...

We did the walk to the lighthouse and we really enjoyed it. Even though it was the one time we didn't bring our waterproof gear and then ended up stuck in a downpour. The lighthouse isn't anything that special (can't go inside) but it was still cool and the views were pretty cool when the sun was out. If you walk fairly fast you can reach it in 1.5 hours or less.

Also, the beginning of the Mount Tarn hike is here. Walk about 10 minutes from the parking area and you'll see a blue sign on the right that says "Tarn", with a rope coming down. We didn't do it because of time/weather but it came highly recommended.

Very nice drive to the end of the continental road. There are several places to wild camp along the road. Worth the drive on a nice day.

On weekends there are a lot of locals! We spent a quiet night directly on the water. Good spot for one night and starting point for the hike to the Faro San Isidro.

We stayed here 2 nights with 2 other families. Could watch the Dolphins from the window. The kids loved playing in the woods, building forts. Walk to the lighthouse with the kids (ages 3-13) was about 5 hrs return.
People came to hike through the day, some left cars overnight. Very quiet overnight.

End of the road. Soms campgrounds here. Great and interesting walk down south. Just after you cross the river look right and you see a rope with a sign to monte tarn. Now just follow the lint and see how far up you can get!

We left our vehicule there for 4 days, perfectly safe while hiking towards cao frowrad. Stunning hike with challenging terrains and rios crossing. If you leave your tent pitched, leave it wide open, foxes are very sneaky in the area. The hotel next to the lighthouse is closed. Beautiful view from lighthouse of many huge whales. We have seen many porpoises on the way.
