Free campground in area where there are MTB trails and shooting range in a sage brush high desert setting . Nice place to stay.

The road up to here is not 2wd friendly. We had a very scary time getting up the road in our converted Promaster van. It was too steep and only 1 way for a section (because of how bad the right side is rutted), another car was coming down at the same time, all at night. We eventually made it up after some sliding down and found a beautiful site. We stayed for 2 nights and loved it. But we won’t be coming back until I get some better tires and maybe a lift. 4wd would have no issue at all.

5G on verizon. plenty of open spots in June and beautiful access to mtn bike and arv trails. quiet but breezy because open. the road up is STEEP and washboard but made it with my 1ton roadtrek. beauty of a spot!

Tons of sites all over with sprinters, trailers, and tents scattered around. Came in while it was raining so the road was a bit muddy but 2wd cars were still driving around no problem. Sort of an intimidating hill at the beginning but opens up nicely right beyond that. Good views and metal fire rings is a +. stayed one night. also cattle freely walk around this area so don't be surprised if you see/hear one.

Trailhead for Tailpipe. Two well established sites with grill, picnic table, and private boulder garden.

This is a recreation area with hiking trails and for off-road vehicles. We saw a lot of 2Wd cars entering the area, you can get to sites without problems. There are around 50 sites for free. Not all are leveled. It’s amazing and super cool.

We stayed in spot BTR7 and it has AMAZING views. This spot overlooks Gunnison and is nestled into a beautiful rock outcropping.

This place is great. Very clean, friendly people and miles and miles of Moto trails, hiking trails and biking trails. Road is a bit washboard and steep but I believe a good driver wouldn't need 4wd. Big Rigs would fit, and there is plenty of space between campsites. It's free and there is strong 4g network with Verizon and TMobile.
