my third time staying with Hassan. he's such a crazy entertainer. I've done Indiana Jones, Wet and wild, chutes and ladders and vulture rocks. all great hikes with amazing scenery. totally recommend staying

Report Check-In

This is indeed a nice place to stop by when in the Fouta if you want to do some hiking. Hassane is very kind and takes good care of his guests.

I do think it's a little overpriced, but then again the organisation is there. 450,000 GNF per day including accomodation, 3 meals and a guide for your hike of the day. Accomodation is quite basic (a mattress on the floor and toilets and showers outside) but is OK. Food is very good and plentiful.

On the day I arrived we only went for a village walk so I negotiated to only pay 300,000 GNF for that day. Next day I did the Indiana Jones walk which is cool and not too challenging. Then we did a hike to the Kambadaga falls and it was gorgeous. We had to pay an extra 50,000 GNF each to take bikes to the start of the hike. One section is very steep but it's worth it, some good swimming also.

Only downside is that I felt a bit "stuck" in the village, Maps.me etc. don't show any paths around and there's not much around the village, so only go if you really plan on hiking each day.

I took a moto taxi from Aïguel to come (100,000 GNF) and Hassane organised a shared taxi for us when we left for Pita (40,000 GNF pp).

A cool experience overall!

We spent a few nights here and Hassan and his family were kind and really made us feel at home. The walking tour (we did the Chutes and Ladders) was amazing, there’s no other way to experience this in Guinea. So yes, it’s money, but with three home cooked meals, coffee and LGT (lemon grass tea, Hassan likes to abbreviate). Also on the day we left he gave us lunch for the road. So we thought it was worth it.

If you don’t go with Hassan, you don’t know what you’re missing out. If you rush through the country without having seen the area around Doucki, the Fouta Djallon, you haven’t seen the true „essence“ of the country. It’s worth every single cent! Yes, it’s a business, but why shouldn’t people earn money for the great job they’re doing?
If you choose a room in a house at Hassan‘s place, you have solar electricity and a real (shared) shower. Cabins are more rustic than rooms.
Food is great (vegetarian options available) and local.
Hikes are very special, in addition to guiding you to places, Hassan will teach you about crops and local life.
He speaks English, Spanish and French and you will be taken care of in a very personal way.
Water is from the well, so bring your own if you have a sensitive stomach.
Highly recommended!
Btw.: we‘ve been to Aïguel before and it’s completely different. If you have the time, go to both places to explore! Both are so worth the time!

Mandatory stop in Guinea!
Hassan is the best, worth every single cent

€50pp per night, meals and hiking included. Hassan is very welcoming, a very homely stay with quite a few children at his place. He is Sierra Leonian and speaks great English.

We stayed in our van as our 5* rig accommodation is hard to beat 🙂, but we enjoyed the dinner and breakfast and hike.

We were really hoping to do a hike that had a chance of seeing chimpanzees (we saw them in Senegal and got addicted!). We thought from the previous reviews that Hassan might be more of an eco guide that would tailor to our needs and have detailed local knowledge on wildlife (this might have been our own fault!)

The hikes Hassan does are quite close to inhabited areas and it seems he has a bit of a set repertoire of 1 or 2 quite fixed hiking options which didn’t really work for us. It might be our misunderstanding and I think in general it is quite difficult to find an eco guide and find the chimpanzees in this part of Guinea so perhaps we were looking for something that doesn’t exist.

Hassan is happy to discuss different offers and prices with people even though he prefers not to state and advertise prices individually.

Hassan is a very nice guy and a great guide. Although one of us had a knee problem, he managed to support us well and showing us the amazing nature of the area around Doucki in a 4hr morning hike. If you are willing to pay €45pp for this experience in itself (as we where) you are ok. If not, don’t go... the road to Doucki is terrible (not difficult, but a lot of rocky surface; count on a 3hr drive from Pita), the accomodation is very basic (hut with only a bed, outside pit toilet and bucket shower in a dirty building) and the food also very basic, unless you had never white rice with onion sauce before and for lunch only peanut sauce with cassava. And Hassan expects you to use your own cutlery....

stayed 3 nights instead of 1, which i had originally in mind. That alone should be Feedback enough. price is 45 full service with plenty of food and hikes...IT doesnt matter If you Come alone or in a group.
I liked the ideal of guided hiking, secure parking and 3 meals a day. the price is what it is and if you dont want to spend that sum, then dont go there. If there, also ask for the New Hike...IT is worth it.
IT is also a good way to Support the local community and my recommendation is to give the guides (except for hassan) some tip or equipment.
the place definitely has my recommendation. ..

I paid 45usd per day, including everything. Food was amazing!

Report Check-In

We came to Hassan’s place hoping to be able to eat and stay in a hut or put our tent for 2 nights. Knowing that we couldn’t afford the 45€/night/person, we were hoping to trek on our own in the docki area. But when we arrived he made clear that we couldn’t just pay for sleeping and eating, we had to take the full guide, sleep, eat for 45€/person/night (90€). We told him we cannot afford that, that our budget is much smaller. Then he said “this is a business here”, “I cannot forbide people to trek alone in this area, but ...”.

Then because it was already dark and our friends were staying there we could stay that night but had to leave next day morning. We gave Hassan’s brother 240.000 Gn, for sleeping and rice with sauce for dinner. But he asked for more. The hut didn’t had any light or electricity nor there was water in the shower, and dinner was very simple and small. I think 240.000Gn was not bad.

Hassan and his brother have the monopoly of this area (Docki). If you go to other houses around to buy lunch or dinner they tell you that you need to go to Hassan’s.

Personally I didn’t like how they treat us there, beside being overexpensive. I would recommend you camp on your own on the fields around the village and you follow the wikiloc trails of the area.

Good hiking, especially the “Chutes and ladders”. It’s expensive though (50 € for 2 hikes, a night in a hut and 4 meals). Hassan is a character himself, funny and generous.

Basic camp with traditional Foulah huts. Nice host, good hike and secluded location. Was asked for 45 eur all-in (hut, 3 meals, guided hike, water, fruits).

Absolutely amazing hiking. Borders on climbing at times. had great fun for 3 days. I did 3 hikes "wet and wild" "Chutes and ladders" "indiana jones". the last 2 are best. Chutes and ladders sees you climb down into the valley following a waterfall and then climb back up via the rocks and ladders made from trees branches and vines. Stunning. be aware though that all the hikes require some serious effort, especially as you'll always be going uphill in the heat of the day. everything is included in the price which is now 45 euros a day. it is expensive and on hearing the price I was only going to do 2 days, but decided on 3 as it was so good. the accomodation and food are nothing fancy, but perfectly adequate. the food portions are huge. Though it is expensive, I highly recommend here as 1) I don't know anywhere else 2) there is no attempt to upsell or take you to a friends shop etc. 3) Hassan is good company and is generous himself - he gave me a bottle of honey when I left. 4) he speaks fluent French, English and Spanish.

note - he counts the number of nights not the number of hikes when calculating the bill, so either arrive early or leave late to get full hiking in. I could tell he wasn't trying to play a game with me, just we had both misunderstood. settled on a compromise.

Best Hiking in West Africa, hands down!
Hussain and his brother and family have been running this place for years. Nice cabins to stay in, all meals supplied and excellent guided hikes, but not cheap at 35 euro per person per day.
I did not try to negotiate the price if I camped or made my own food, etc. probably possible.
The road to get here is also a Guinea highlight, not to be missed!
