Argentina
Lovely refugio right on the lake and way more chilled out than Frey. Lots of tent sites or space inside (BYO sleeping bag). We hiked here from Frey - it's an amazing walk with incredible scenery, but be prepared for a couple of pretty gnarly ascents and descents - lots of rocks, scree and sand which you have to scramble up / down (bring hiking poles if you aren't confident (like one of us)). The best direction for this hike is definitely Frey > Jakob. We hiked it mid January with good weather, don't think it would be wise to attempt in bad weather or with snow. There is a lovely place to free camp between Frey and Jakob in a valley amongst the beech trees, next to a waterfall . Refugio Jakob was 350pp or free for tents (30 for use of banos), and has the usual food available, but be aware that when you arrive there the meal prices may be different to those quoted at the Club Andino Bariloche. Food is pretty expensive - basic but good - we recommend you just bring your own because we're pretty sure it's lentil stew every night. From Jakob we walked down the valley to Tambo, and from there we had to walk back to Catedral where our van was parked (approx 8km).

Beautiful renovated refugio. Price is 6000 Pesos for overnight in the refugio (4 bed dorms), 1.000 Pesos for camping. Dinner is okay, but you have to take/ pay the three course meal (no choice of only main course) for 5.500 Pesos. Breakfast is 3.000 Pesos. I attached picture of the pricelist. The hike from Refugio Frey is awesome! Enjoy!
