Description

Terrible road with no signalization, no pull over space, and no dimension for two cars! Too many blind curves and dangerous water crosses! In some parts there is asphalt, other just mud! The road cross some areas no recommended to ride by night, due to the narcos and revolutionary actions.

Latest Check-Ins

we did the road on a sunny day and very doable with our 2wd minivan

Report Check-In

The road is being renovated, the worst part is around Kiteni couple of hours in each direction. On a dry sunny day it's a really cool to drive, scenic route, however after heavy rain (quite common), at night or in the fog (also common) it can become a nightmare due to landslides, patholes, blind curves, intense darkness and others. Very few options to stop in there so better plan well not to end up having to drive at night. Could be challenging for big rigs as the parts of the road are not more than 3m wide. High clearance definitely NEEDED (plenty of high gravel, mud, rivers, etc...) 4wd is helpful if it's been raining.

Report Check-In

This road is no joke, and is far worse than any "death road" we have driven in South America. We drove it in heavy rain and encountered four serious water crossings, one of which we got stuck in. many landslide crossings including one that was very muddy and slick, at one point we started sliding toward the edge and honestly thought we were going to die. For reference we are in a 4x2 high clearance with AT tires and have had no problems on any other road. Just avoid this road in the wet season, it isn't worth it.

Report Check-In

Not terrible, very scenic. Lots of river crossings and not much traffic.

Report Check-In

We did this road under rain so it was wet. We have Sprinter 4x4 but any 4x2 overland vehicle with high ground clearance and AT tires can easily do this route (mostly paved). It is very wise (two lanes mostly) in Peru standarts. Some gas stations selling S50 diesel and some restaurants on the route. Nice view, nice drive.

Report Check-In

This road offers a lot of very beautiful rain forest views with tons of waterfalls - definitely worth to see. It is easy driving at dry season (you just need to take time), but at rain season you have high chance road is impassable due to landslide or high river water.

Report Check-In

Nice drive on a motorbike. Lots of small water crossings but nothing deeper than a foot in the dry if you look where you're going. Gorgeous views of unbroken jungle-covered hills. Saw lots of pickup trucks on the road who weren't having any difficulty. Guys at the security checkpoint checked all papers (took them away for a while), but were friendly and didn't search me (haven't been searched once the whole way down from Canada).

But allow lots of time as you can rarely see more than 15 meters in front of you down the road, so you'll need to go slow and be on the horn half the time.

There is no shortage of places to get gas along the way.

Very very nice ride with a lot of waterfalls in the jungle, awesome view and almost no traffic. Near the watercrossing often landslides and no asphalt. Therefore only recommended for motorbikes or cars with high clearance! If you wanna drive save you will not be able to make more than 30km/h but it's worth it. We saw some little trucks but I would not do it with a big rig.
