Description

Great geology in a Nature Preserve. There is a 1 hour interpretive trail and a visitor center with some nice fossils. One of the Gaudafaunas spoke some English. 185 pesos pp.

No camping within the preserve. We camped on a side estancia road before the entrance, but had no protection from the wind.

We went to another Bosque Petrificado in Santa Cruz and were also impressed. Trees here are in smaller chunks but there are more of them and the valley view is richer with regard to the geology.

Nice place, very unique landscape. Not much info in English and not quite a Forest but cool nonetheless! March 2020: 110 pesos (1.76 usd) per foreign adult. Open 10-18.

Coming from the town of Sarmiento the drive is 27.3km total, with only 9km of pavement.

A really beautiful site, more for the awesome desert landscapes than the wood, though that was cool too. The road to get here is good asphalt for 12kms and then gravel and stones for 20 more so it takes a while to get there but we thought it was worth the detour.

Price is now 185 ARS. Really special to see the trees so up close. Watch out with children and pets when the winds are strong. We (two adults) had trouble walking or standing at certain parts of the trail. Can recommend this place!

Indeed well worth the detour. The petrified trunks can be see very close (you even walk over it) and in an beautiful landscape during a walk (1.5 km) with very strong wind. And you will probably also be the only one on the path) Ask that they play the film in the information center before the walk. The guardafaunas are very nice and hempful. Toilets at the ranger station.
