Description

Spectacular spot at the Volcano Villaricca. On the one side, the lake and on the other side, the volcano.
At night it starts to glow!!! Fantastic!! And the stars...
We were totally alone here. A perfect spot. The best so far.
Follow the dirt road to the end where the statue is. I will try to upload a photo.

Report Check-In

the guardaparque just put today a sign that is prohibited to park or sleep here due to the high risk as we are very close to the volcano, we slept here 2 nights and it was great, but in the second night they put the sign and camo to tell us about the prohibition, they were very polite.

Report Check-In

This place is within the national park. You risk to be sent away. Also many people drive up here at the weekends at night. We stayed at the big parking lot having a very calm night.

The name "Spectacular Spot" for this place is very appropriate. We stayed here for one night, at the foot of Villa Rica volcano. Great view of the volcano to one side; great view of the lakes to the other side. We've been lucky enough to see a spill of very dense smoke and see the red glowing of lava reflected in the clouds. The access has some difficult stones for a 2wd vehicle. Easy for a 4wd though. There are two "senderos" departing from the spot, one around 200m long and another 4km long. No infrastructure. No water. There was some people around until the fall of the night. Around 22h there were only us there. Peaceful night. No wind (but I think we're lucky, since the spot is very exposed).

Report Check-In

Beautiful view on the volcano BUT we don’t recommend this spot if you don’t have a 4x4 because the road is very very bad to climb up there…

Report Check-In

Amazing spot when its clear! Some photographers at night, for the rest quiet. Felt safe, good Movistar reception. Before turning into the little track for the last few meters to get to the exact spot marked here there is a sign that non authorized people are not allowed to, but everyone ignores the sign, including the photographers. If you prefer (or if you don't have high clearance) you can still stay in the parking lot before the turnoff.

Report Check-In

Beautiful views of the volcano and the lake! It’s a small gravel parking lot, like a viewpoint/lookout feel with the statue. But it’s far in so there’s not many cars that come to it. Agree with the other comment about it feeling like you’re not supposed to be here but it was beautiful. The road was patchy in parts but we were fine in our 4wd. Got windy in the morning so I personally wouldn’t recommend roof tents.

Report Check-In

We made it no problem without 4x4. I’m assuming they must have done work on the road. First little hump (just 60 meters before camp spot) is the only tricky spot. It’s a beautiful spot to call home for a night. Try waking up for sunrise!

Report Check-In

Really nice. Try to go with good weather though. We have a rooftop tent and the wind was crazy (almost decided to sleep in the car) and very cold. It luckily calmed down after a few hours and in the morning it was beautiful. Road up is bad and for the last 250 meters to the exact spot you definitely need 4x4. Kind of feels like you are not supposed to go there but it’s obvious that cars have driven. We woke up early, parked the car a bit further down where other cars were parked the day before and did the 3 hour hike. Really good views all around!

Report Check-In

Thanks iOverlander
Really beautifull place
At left amazing view on thé volcano and right the lake
Super quiet and no wind for us
The first part is little bit tricky but dont hesitate if you have a 4x4

The hike is also really cool

Report Check-In

impossible to reach without 4x4. but nice spot.

Report Check-In

Spectacular views and sunset. The road up requires 4x4, and the clearing is exposed, but we saw no one all night, and just a few hiking groups in the morning...and did I mention the views?!

Found a couple flat spots for tents as well.

Report Check-In

We could make it to this spot (4x4 needed) but there is a huge parking lot just before (800mts) right at the beginning of the parking there is some abandoned cabin and the space is kind of flat. Perfect for sleep and great night with stars and very quiet. We even had the reflection of the lava at night on the smoke. It was breathtaking.

Report Check-In

this point is not accessible by car due to snow condition. so we camp just at the junction before.

Place is NOT accessible anymore unless you have a 4x4 with high clearance due to the rocky surface at the beginning of the path. We stayed a little further down at the empty gravel area.

Report Check-In

We arrived late at night. A bit difficult because the last 4 km are unpaved road. We were all alone so it was really quiet and nice!
We really recommand this place!

Report Check-In

Very special. We were unmolested here, but there were fairly many weekend hikers. All left at sunset. Leave no traces at this beautiful spot.

Wonderfull sunset
with view to lake,
montains and, sure, volcan. At night, the lights of city Villarica and others places are so beatifull. Only
us at nigth, no wind. There are 2 quimical bathroons.

Report Check-In

Stayed here one night and the next morning a ranger came by and told us absolutely no one is allowed to camp here or anywhere inside the park boundaries. And then he asked us to leave immediately. Shucks!

Report Check-In

Realy beautiful view on the lake and the volcan, specialy the night for us because of rainy days and there is a sendero for the volcan.

Report Check-In

Wow!!! Beautifull spot, amazing views, stayed 2 nights. During the day some people who hike around this place, in the evening/night you are totally alone. Enough space for several cars/rigs.
The easy "sendero los crateres" that starts from this spot is also recommended. It takes 2,5 - 3 hours (8km) return.

Report Check-In

We arrived at night and it was raining so hard with a lot of fog that we couldn't see if we were in the right spot. The next morning, it was also too rainy and foggy to see anything, so we never got a glimpse of the night sky nor the volcano. It was quiet at night but nothing else was redeeming. Bad luck for us! Not worth it if it's a rainy/foggy night.
