Description

AKA The Blue House. Single rooms, dormitory-style bunks in a converted trailer or camping. 24-hours hot water, bad wifi, large kitchen/recreation room for all guests. Super friendly, chilled owners. Excellent value for El Chalten. Example prices: Camping - 5USD, dorm bunk in 4-bed trailer - 7USD
Dorm bunk in room in the 2nd floor of the House : 11USD
Matrimonial 25USD

In High season it's pretty hard to get a bed as since it's always packed and 3 times cheaper as the rest of town which charges 20-25USD for a bunk bed on average.

---------------------------------------------------------

! IMPORTANT REMINDER REGARDING PRICES PLEASE READ !
"Too long; didn't read" at the end.

Due to the collapse and never ending-inflation of the national currency, we kindly ask you to write all prices in USD or EUR when leaving a review. Putting prices in Pesos is only misleading people and creating confusion.

Keep in mind that the value of Argentinian Peso is decreasing non-stop since 20 years. Therefore, something costing 100 pesos in 2018 might cost 1000 pesos in 2020 if the value of the currency has been divided by 10.

Bear in mind that in 2000 the rate was 1 USD = 1 peso. Now in early 2020, 1 USD = 70 pesos. That is a 70,000% inflation.
An empanada costing 1 peso in 2000 now would cost 70 pesos. Such is the concept of inflation (just to make sure everyone understands) ==> The value of things stay more or less the same while the currency value slowly goes down to nothing, therefore prices in the inflated currency go higher accordingly. ==> Inflation does not necessarily causes things to be cheaper, it can but only a little.

TL;DR : Do not put prices in Argentinian pesos which is heavily inflated, put them in USD or EUR only.

Thank you for making everyone's trip smoother.

Cosy place for tents with some space for a van but not for a big rig. 8000.- per person camping/van. Hot showers, good kitchen, bad wifi, cool owner and good vibe. They also have rooms

Report Check-In

Still a good, cheap base to explore the surrounding area. Various overnight options. Kitchen, hot shower, good WiFi. Plenty of parking and centrally located to restaurants, supermarkets and the trailheads of the beautiful hikes. Also popular with long term residents working the season.

Report Check-In

A low cost and busy hostel with very helpful owners and guests from around the world. We stayed one night in a bunk room (4000peso = 5USD pp), one night in the trailer (3000 peso pp) and one night in our tent (2500 peso pp).

The owner went above & beyond when I left my wallet there, driving to the bus station to look for me, informing our bus company and keeping it safe (and full) until I realised!

Plenty of room to store bikes & luggage if you go hiking too.

Report Check-In

Nice owner but campground, kitchen, wifi and hostel facilities are overcrowded. Campground could use some love. I paid with Chilean pesos .

Report Check-In

Nice cozy place, Mr Juan is a lovely grand pa who is running this place with he’s wife, we paid 15 USD two people per night as toady you get a kitchen, place to park rigs, and Trailers with bunk beds inside. Totally recommend

Report Check-In

The NICEST owners you could possibly encounter. It’s nearing the end of the season, and they are still somehow incredibly friendly/happy to see you. Beds in upstairs dorm (USD$10) were super comfy. Felt comfortable leaving my moto with soft panniers in their parking area (behind house/out of view from street) during overnight hikes. they also offer free baggage storage in a large/locked shed. Kitchen can get pretty crowded, better to cook at off-peak times and you’ll likely have it to yourself.

Report Check-In

Still 300 for camping, a bit sheltered from wind.
700 for a bed
Nice place in El Chaltén and the cheaper we found

Report Check-In

Super crowded, two toilets that were dirty the whole time. Kitchen was ok, no knives to chop stuff with. Was ok. If you don't have a good tent, don't camp. I was watching tents getting ripped apart by the wind ;)

Report Check-In

Prices as of January 2020: $300 (tent), $400 (trailer), $600 (dorm).

Casa Azul is quite busy, although it remains quite clean. The kitchen is well equipped and there is hot water at any time. Don't expect to connect to the Wi-Fi easily, unless you try early in the morning/late at night. Also, there is rarely toilet paper in the washroom. Other than that, the owners (Juan and Nelly) are very nice.

For real this place saves your wallet when you get to El Chaltén.

Super friendly owner, super affordable prices (7USD for bed in Trailer and 11USD in comfy dorm room in the House)

5 USD for camping, take credit card. As everywhere in Chaltén garbage wifi.

Cheapest option in town and a really good one for the price. Camping 300pp, dorm 400pp. Juan the owner looks always happy. The kitchen is basic but it works. Two toilets/showers (Juan let you use his own when it's too crowded) with good warm showers. They let you wash your clothes if you need to and have buckets for that. The common room/kitchen is kept warm and cosy. The camp site can be really windy (I didn't find any camping which isn't) so pitch you tent well. Windwise it looks like a better option to pitch the tent behind the house but it's not! The place can be crowded, and the kitchen quickly becomes too small and the two toilets/showers quickly becomes not enough but if you successfully made your way this far, sure you learned a great deal about patience.
They would keep your stuff safe during your trekks (no charge).
Ah, and yeah, WiFi is available, but same as the wind being a constant in El Chalten, WiFi being slower than a loaded cyclist in the Carretera Austral is also a constant... Patience my friends, patience.

300 for camping, which is the cheapest in town. Not particularly good wind protection, some spots are better than others. Definitely a great place to stay in Chaltén though, nice kitchen/common area, seems to attract a good type of crowd, and the owners are very friendly and happy for cyclists to store their bicycles when going off on multi-day hikes. Wifi is extremely temperamental, but it's as no different to anywhere else in town. Its not fancy, but this is definitely the place I'd stay again if I went back to Chaltén.

Report Check-In

Nice place, with kitchen, hot showers, and Wifi (slow).
There is little protection from the wind, but one has the possibility to sleep in a trailer, which costs not much more.
Price for camping 300pppn.

Still the cheapest campsite in town. 150arg pesos to camp, dorm in a trailer for 250, rooms from 300. The owner is lovely. He let us leaving some stuff in a closed deposit without any charge while we were hiking.

Report Check-In

super friendly hosts, camping is now 150 arp pp / dorm bunk 300 / dorm inside 400.
many nice advices about the city and don't forget to ask for an address if you're heading to El Calafate
perfect for cyclist, hot showers, kitchen, common room for lunch and camping spot are sheltered from west wind

Report Check-In

Dorm bed in the trailer 300 pesos, camping 200. Beds inside more. Worth the extra 100 to get out of the wind! Decent kitchen, good hot showers, good vibes. Lots of cyclists.

Report Check-In

Dorm bed in the trailer (which seemed a bit cold to me) 150 ArP, dorm bed inside (nice 'n warm) 200.
Not the fanciest place but the atmosphere is very relaxed.

Report Check-In

Nice place, it was 100 pesos pp. Has 2 hot showers and clean bathrooms. Kitchen it’s ok but not the best. Has a good common room but wifi is average.
I would recommend to stay here, must be one of the cheapest places to camp

Report Check-In

Was expecting a bit more after reading the reviews. The price for camping is 100pesos pp. Very crowded, the kitchen is very basic, many pans are missing handles, just one bowl and the kitchen is far from being clean. The toilets don't usually have paper, nor soap. Wifi is super slow. The owners are very-very friendly though!

Report Check-In

The owners just arrived a day before so were still busy making everything ready for the season. The kitchen and living room were already super clean and heated! They offered us a night for 150 pesos for 2 persons in a car, super friendly.

Report Check-In

$30p for a shower. $80p to sleep in your vehicle and use the hostel services.
