Something not right?

Description

stayed nicely protected in front of what looks like the town office. Shuttered (not abandoned) and well conserved. Very little trash, no stray dogs, no nothing. lots of peace and quiet.

Latest Check-Ins

As mentioned not quite abandoned. A family was here when arrived. No problem spending the night though. Quiet and safe. Not sure it’s worth driving down here though if you’re like me and just looking for a spot for the night. Several level spots away from traffic on the way down.

Great place to stay and acclimate to heights on the way up the cordillera. It's a little Aymara (native american) hamlet with a small government office and 10-20 houses/shacks, and is very well preserved: it does not look abandoned at all, just shuttered (we've heard elsewhere that many of those villages remain closed for a large part of the year while the population goes to bigger cities for work, but that they return periodically for religious festivities and to care for the place).

No electricity anymore: the AC outlets have exactly zero voltage.

There's still a working water tap behind the government office, but be sure to bring a hose and adaptor because it's a straight tap pointing up so you won't be able to take water otherwise. Also, try to conserve the water because, as there is no more electricity for the pump, once the water in the tower tank is over, it's over for good.

Very peaceful and quiet, the only people we met were a couple from the Netherlands who stayed for a night on their rental car, and a few sheep shepherds in the distance.Very little trash around (and please, *please* keep it that way, take out everything you took in with you), and not even stray dogs: the only animals we saw were some hares/rabbits in the fields behind the government offices, and small birds flying all around.

Great hikes in the vicinity, I specially recommend following CH-141 through the town until it turns into a dirty road and then continuing further SE/SEE, following the stream until it comes to a small dam, then following the canyon to the N/NW; amazing views all around; just follow common-sense procedures (eg, don't hike into narrow canyons because there could be a rockfall and crush/bury you under), and please be respectful of the place.

An odd place, with buildings in good shape but not in use. We also parked near the “town hall”, as its one of the few flat spaces available. Active agriculture upstream, but the only people we saw were two guys in a pickup who drove through town, turned around, and drove away. We waved, they waved. In the morning a white truck came down the hill and went to the agricultural area, but we never saw the occupants. Cold overnight, but very quiet. Two condors overhead in the afternoon.
