Description

The base camp of a trekking company in some old miner's buildings converted to rooms and dorms and grassy areas for camping cars. Price was 30,000 Ush incl. breakfast. There's a water spring across the street and hidden behind a school. There's no reason to come here unless you're planning a trek.

Don‘t agree about the ridiculous pricing. I did the trek to Margherita Peak which is amazing but also quite technical. You need good guides for that and thats what RTS provides. Mountaineering guides with almost european standards. Happy to pay for that. Can‘t vomment on the value for shorter treks.
Definitely recommended.
The rooms at the hostel are basic but the food is good!

We did a 1 day trek with the rwenzori trekking services and stayed here one night. I would disagree that the camping is in the parking area - at least for us. We were directed to some flatter ground behind some of the dormitories. Hot showers (more like scalding!) available but also cold, and good clean toilets. We enjoyed our stay here a lot and the sunrise over the rwenzori was stunning. We also found a little pool upstream in the river to throw ourselves into after a long walk!

Camping is really in the parking. Long flight of stairs to toilet and even higher for shower, they add hot water 1 hr before. Offer food and breakfast nice view. Luckily offered banda bathroom close to parking. 24 hr guard. Joined them on their village walk was really great visiting story teller, local blacksmith and coffe, banana farm. 15km dirt road from tar Road. Staff very nice. Trekking up the mountain ridiculous price 1 day $100, 2 day $500 4days $1000 and 6 day $1200.. Lovely drive up through banana and coffee pkantations

We stayed here for our Rwenzori trek. We did a 3 day trek to the top of Matinda lookout. It cost $350pp or $300pp if there is 3 or more people. We got a discount of 10% off this price because we didn’t use porters to carry our bags. We highly recommend Tito as a guide! He was exceptional. Awesome trek and very professional. We had amazing meals considering we were in the mountains. You can only pay in cash and closest ATM was about 16km back down the hill.

Camping is quite ok with view to the mountains but close a village. Hot showers and clean toilets. 8 USD pppn and breakfast is included! You can choose between omelette, crepes, pancakes or scrambled eggs among other things.

Only hostel next to the mountain, definitely overpriced. The place is clean and the grass is nice. They don't let you use their premises for cooking and we had a bit of a discussion because there was no shelter for the threatening rain. Eventually the sky cleared and it was ok.
I did a day walk around the community and the waterfall for around 30,000 ugs.
Indeed -as mentioned in previous posts - their primary focus is mzungu priced tours to the top of the Rwenzori mountains, where you have to also pay 35 USD per night apart from the hostel guiding fees. For instance a four day hike was around 350 USD plus 105 USD (35 USD x 3)
If you are interested in more local / community oriented hiking, the local Mbabulya community foundation organises tours up the mountain right in front of the hostel. The mountain is not as high as the highest peaks but the views are stunning and the people very nice. They organise multiple day hikes and the cost is around 25,000 ugs for the guiding services plus some extras for food and accommodation. They have their own hostel, which is a basic local near the pathway.

Hostel with small bar and some grassy surface to camp with your car. Surface isn’t flat so hard to find a good spot. Nothing fancy, no power, no wifi, no kitchen, abolution outdated and not really clean, but they have hot water. They charge 8$ pppn incl a very simple breakfast. Price is overcharged, but this is the only place where you can do the Rwenzori trekking and where you can camp.

There's a water spring across the street and hidden behind a school. The coordinates are my best guess after leaving. There's no reason to come here unless you're planning a trek, and unfortunately this company only offers the types of overpriced one-size-fits-all trips that ruin tourism in East Africa.
