Really beautiful, very well graded at the moment. Nice gravel road cruising. Don't understand comment below about "better than 41", as this road is signed and on maps.me as RP 41.

Very beautiful scenery! The only problem is finding a good campspot for the night. Locals told us, it's not safe to park on the grassy flats for the night because of the heavy wind gusts. It could turn a car upside down...
So if you have to sleep on that stretch, maybe ask the farmers if you could park on their property for a night (sheltered from the wind).

What a really nice street, no 4x4 need, the landscape is fantastic

Wow!!! Very beautiful road, very recommendable! After 3 months of pampa in Argentina this landscape wich indeed looks a lot like southwest USA, was a very welcoming change.

beautiful road! I recommend for RWD motorhome. the road is soft, just medium washboard on the last 5 kilometers on the north before the road 41.
the road is in way better shape than the 49 we took to Lago posadas, but worth it

Really beautiful scenery, almost desert-like. Very different to what we’ve seen until now coming from Santiago. The road makes for a pretty bumpy ride but no worse than the way through Parque Patagonia or parts of the Carretera Austral.

No need for 4x4 however be prepared for a rough ride, when we headed off the road was partially maintained the remaining unmaintained part (20-25km towards the boarder coming from Lagos Posadas) weren’t great at all...lots of big rocks and heavy washboard. When crossing to Chile the big stones vanished almost entirely but the washboard was a true challenge.
I mean looking back the landscape is very beautiful and I’d do it again but just be aware what you’re getting in to...and yeah try to avoid rain or rainy days before your travel there is a piece 10km before the boarder crossing (Argentinien side) where the road has big time potential for being swapped away by the rain. Talk to people in Lagos Posadas or even earlier to get adequate information suiting your traveling time.

Very very scenic gravel road, but pretty bumpy. Suggested if you don't mind travel at 40km/h.

There is a very good audioguide which lead you form Los Antiguos to Lago Posada through the Ruta 41 and 39. it's in Spanish but has some nice songs. You can upload it with the wi-fi from the tourist office form Lago Posadas or Los Antiguos at this page: www.santacruzpatagonia.gob.ar The road it's very scenic, wide and not need 4x4 (in dry weather).

This road is cool. We started at 8 in the morning from north to south and saw lots of Nandus (not sure if the name is right but these huge birds that can’t fly but run faster than Ursain Bolt:-) even running on the street, of course lots of guanacos, the biggest condor we have seen in 3 months Andes and the best thing...it felt like being a real overlander again, a feeling we kept missing since the atacama.

one quick addition: we were told this road is preferable to route 41 (and faster) as it's more traveled. at the turn for route 41 the small bridge seemed to be under repair and was blocked by cones.

take this road. the whole drive from Chile is nice and the road is fine.

we can confirm this route is just beautiful. probably dependent of the weather but we were lucky enough to have a blue sky.
couldn't stop taking pictures

Like everyone else wrote previously, very nice and wide gravel road with expansive views that remained us a little bit of the South West landscapes in the US. Beautiful drive.
