Description

Camping tourists of any kind not welcome at Caleta Gonzalo!!!!

A small gravel area in front of the fjord.

Due to the low season, the visitor center and the café were already closed when we arrived in the evening, so there was nobody that we could ask for permission. We were the only ones for the night and left the next midday with the ferry. During the high season, definitely ask for permission before staying overnight!

Camping tourists of any kind are not welcome at Caleta Gonzalo! (unless they spend money at the restaurant or guesthouse or cabins) Best to continue your way to other places away from Caleta Gonzalo.

Report Check-In

It’s not allowed to stay here. We used the parking lot of the campsite 100 m before, unfortunately near the road but also quiet at night.

We stayed here in quiet agreement with the park ranger Don Gonzalo, who we helped translating spanish into English- and since it was off-season it was no problem. Stayed two times directly an the waterfront with best views and calming sounds of the sea. When we came back two days later, Don Gonzalo was gone and replaced by a quite unfriendly, English speaking lady in the cafe who treated us quite badly in comparison to the guests who stayed in the cabins since we were campers. argh ... but like the place anyways :) but not much here then those little huts- so gas up and get food if needed in Chaitén!!! Almost had a breakdown with the car...

Report Check-In

We stayed the night here because we had to wait for the Ferry. The restaurant was closed just like the info center, but there are Good public toilets. Really quite and nice place.

Report Check-In

We spent the night at the parking lot of the camp site (about 350m after the visitor centre) after late arrival from the ferry.

Report Check-In

Tried to spend the night here in the area just past the visitor's center and to the right. There is a sign there saying no camping on the beach or in the parking lot. Went into the visitor's center and asked, the woman in there said it was fine for us to camp there despite the sign. We setup for the night and at 21:30 when my wife got out of the van to goto the bathroom a warden came over and said we couldn't camp there. I told him I had asked and that we had been told it was ok, he said that whoever told us was wrong. We needed to park at the parking lot 100m up the road. We moved there and spent the night.

Report Check-In

Arrived at 1am off ferry, fine to pull over and sleep

Report Check-In

Turn right immediately after the visitor centre and there is some space for parking. Some other overlanders parked there and had no trouble from the wardens. On the main road 400m before the visitor centre is a lay-by car park for the campsite (walk-in camping only, no vehicle access) where we parked for the night before our ferry. We didn't pay as we didn't use the campsite facilities. Lovely café with excellent food.

Report Check-In

There are cabin's you can rent, a visitor's center, and a restaurant. I stayed in a cabin, but there were overlanders parked in the lot and the staff seemed happy to have them around. The food was good and it was a nice visitors center.

Report Check-In

Very nice setup, especially if you're leaving or arriving on the ferry.
