Description

Parking at the sendero ecologica Maceta around 6 km before arriving in Todos Santos. We arrived in the evening. No one around. The parking is quite level accomodating up to midsize vehicles. If you have a small vehicle you can park on a small grassy spot beside the parking. You are visible from the road. But above the road and not right by it. A local came by, he told us it was fine to spend the night there for free and the trail is free, too. He considered it safe.
We spent a very quiet night but cold night there.
Next another local came by. Nice enough but he presented himself as a guide and he asked 20 quetzales per person per night for the camp and the trail! We politely refused to pay. When you arrive there is a small hut with a description of the trail and the rules. No sign indicating that you have to pay anything. We explained this. He could not present a "recibo" and he just left.
Good place to stay!

Latest Check-Ins

Concrete path now finished though still very steep. Good flat spot at top for vehicles or tents, or just up trail I found a few grassy spots for small tents only. Toilet. No one came by in the evening. Cold at night, bring layers!

Exactly as described, other than they've just concreted the path to the parqueo, so access should be easier from now on (was still drying when I was there so barricaded off - I parked on the side of the road and the guy brought out a traffic cone for me). I was asked for Q50 to enter - I suggested that might be a little steep for a 40-minute hike and he came down to Q20 right away. (Then met a friendly Guatemalan family at the top who asked what I'd paid, so I asked them in return - Q20 each.)

My VW T2 kombi couldn't make it the steep and bad conditions 100m road to the parking. To reach there need a good clearance powerful engine and maybe 4x4.
As I arrived late spend the night at the entrance next to the route, not nice, was a quiet night after 10pm when most of the traffic stopped. The route to come here is very steep. Locals said it's safe to be here and the trail is free.

About the trail, don't spect too much, is a nice 40min to the top trail, nice views, at the top is a roof with a big table and fire place. The main waterfall is dry as locals tubed the water to the town so you see pipes and water collectors here and there, the roof and camp fire sector is over the old big waterfall path.

There is dry and not maintained toilet like 300m inside the trail.

past by this spot during or six day hike. we came out of the mountains walking to todos santos. this trail is a protected area, so there may be a park ranger around during the day. its 20 Q per person. flat area. i dont know if 4x4 is needed. i would try it with my 2wd ford e350. nice views.

Gravel lot where we camped in our car. Entrance to get in is steep so 4x4 or AWD may be necessary. Entrance to hike starts here.
