Description

Wildlife Management Area (Nebraska MWA) at Twin Lakes. Free RV and tent camping for everyone, no fees charged, that is the reason it's 4 stars. Stay/camping limited to 3 days at a time. No water except for the actual lake. Nice area. Roads are gravel/dirt. You can fish and hunt if you have a permit and it's in season. This WMA and lake is in the middle of the countryside, surrounded by farms. Very quiet except for: owls, hawks, squirrel, rabbits, fox, deer, pheasant, quail, coyotes, birdwatchers, wildlife researchers with noisy notepads and binoculars, wearing tan and green shirts, hunters and fishermen in season.

Note* As a rule: All Nebraska WMA's are free to camp for everyone. Check signs as you enter for each WMA's specific regulations, if there are any. If you want electrical and water hookups for RV's, you will need to go to a $pay fee "Nebraska State Park", which are really nice but not free, like the free Nebraska WMA's.

Latest Check-Ins

Gate was closed upon arrival. There's an RV that set up camp outside the gate but that's all. Disappointed and headed to the next WMA spot. There are more just East of here.

Report Check-In

Should have been a nice quiet night far enough off the interstate for a good night sleep. Pulled in about 8:45 enjoyed the pasture that was right beside the parking area. Only people there.

Woke up at 1:30am with a car pulling in and sitting with its lights on for 30-40 minutes. A little nerve wrecking in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. Happened again at 3:10am - remember this is a Sunday night/Monday morning. Car sat there 20 minutes or so behind us with their lights on.

Needless to say not the most restful night we’ve had. Both cars were probably just kids out for some “fun”. Whatever that is in that area. But not a place I would stay again. Just didn’t feel safe with the late night gawkers.

Report Check-In

overall a very nice place. Some highway noise but nothing too loud had no issues sleeping. arrived around 6:30 PM, gates were open. Had an uninterrupted night a few cars rolled by around 10 PM, but just turned around and left would definitely recommend the spot as a stop. If you’re traveling along 80 super convenient and quite pretty too. sheriff did a slow crawl by around 7:45 AM but didn’t stop.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

We arrived at 12 AM and the gate was locked.

Report Check-In

This is the 3rd time staying here. North side of the larger lake. Nice spot not far off Hwy 80. Not as level as some but chalk it up for a good spot. Pick up with a slide in camper. 2 bars LTE.

BIG GWAMMA’S VENTURE VAN

Great hidey hole mins from I-80. Pretty muddy after a rain. Popular local fishin’ spot.

Report Check-In

Great spot while driving through on 80. Road turns to dirt immediately after the exit ramp but was well maintained for any vehicle to access.
One vehicle there when we arrived late. One additional vehicle was there when we woke up, someone fishing. Some road noise but nothing significant.
Outhouse was better then expected considering other comments about this location. It was rustic but clean and well stocked with toilet paper.

Report Check-In

Great spot - was there alone. Arrived around 9pm. There is a section under construction so I parked in the parking lot by the boat deck. Saw one car (minivan? turning around around 10pm. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

Arrived around 9pm and the gate to the area was locked. Luckily there are two parking spots just before the gate to the left. Parked there overnight without any problems. Rolling hills covered in snow. A few cars pulled up in the morning and turned around once they realized the gate would not budge.

Report Check-In

This place is fine for an overnight stop as it is close to the highway, but I would not recommend it for people who are nervous about guns. We showed up around 6 PM and there were about a dozen people here shooting birds in the adjacent field. This WMA is also closed to all activities besides deer hunting from October 15 - December 31. After reading some of the other reviews we showed up expecting a campground, but instead there are two parking lots to choose from.

Report Check-In

Nice little spot to land right off the highway. 3 day max. Great wifi. Very clean, Really nice little lake full of bass, walleye, ect.. had quiet night. Sheriff drove by in the morning and waved.

Report Check-In

spend one night here with my son in our camper van. The sound of I 80 is faint but the surrounding area is wooded and feels like you’re farther away than you actually are. Outhouse structure. Basic and convenient.

Report Check-In

Nice spot with room for many rigs. 90 MBPS LTE Verizon!

Report Check-In

Nice spot, camping allowed for up to three days, quiet at night, during the day there were folks coming to the parking lot mostly for fishing but nobody bothered me

This WMA does really exist and is not taken by other eg agricultural activities, like several WMAs nearby. There are a few spaces direct at a lake, more at a nearby parking place. Facilities like eg toilets are old and rotten. In spite of this, we like this WMA, because it's a real "island" in this extreme agricultural area. AT&T 5bars

Report Check-In

There are 2 areas to camp here. There is a small level gravel parking lot to the left and there is a larger not flat gravel parking lot straight ahead near the boat launch. There are no actual designated camping spots so you're sharing the lot with everyone parking to use the lake. Be careful if you have dogs as we found lots of dead animals and dead fish lying around. It's also close to the interstate so there's plenty of highway noise. It is free as it should be.
