Description

This office deals with the Temporary Import Permit for your vehicle. When shipping-out you cancel it here, and when shipping-in/importing you need to get it here.

Hours:
Doors are open from 08:30 to 15:00 but they work with you until everyone is taken care of.
NO cash payments after 13:00, but they can still take credit cards.

When shipping-in/importing your vehicle this will be your second stop (first you need the validated/endorsed bill of lading from the shipping line representative.). Here they will ask for about US$60 to pay for the “Hologram” sticker. Then depending on the type and year of your vehicle you’ll have to pay a fully refundable deposit depending on the year of your vehicle:
- Older then 2001 = US$200
- 2001 to 2007 = US$300
- New than 2007 = US$400
- Motorhomes Nada. We have a homemade camper van. Because it doesn’t say RV, Motorhome or casa rodante on the title they would not call it an RV, too bad because we could have gotten an in/out 10 year TIP.

It is recommended that you pay the vehicle deposit in cash, because there is a risk that you will lose your credit card between the date you enter and the date you leave the country. When you leave and close your TIP they just credit the card number they have on file, which will change if you lose your card.

Nice people but busy.

They needed my Validated BL, passport, and title for your vehicle. I have read that they may ask for your driving insurance, but they didn’t ask us for it. They made copies of these things themselves.

Please find below the steps we followed for importing our van. We shipped it from Cartagena to Veracruz with Seaboard Marine in a CONTAINER. We did not use an agent in Veracruz.
1. First our BL had to be re-validated at the Seamaritima office (part of Seaboard Marine) in Veracruz (Virgilio Uribe #156).
2. Next we bought the hologram sticker (TIP) at Banjercito. They requested to see some pictures of our van to confirm that it was a “casa rodante”.
3. We could then go to the CICE office (2 doors away from SSA) to organize the following steps. We paid the port logistics (container movements) and vehicle inspections directly to CICE (those are fixed costs).
4. CICE scheduled the vehicle inspections (total of three inspections: aduana, ejercito, marina) and issued our port entrance permits (owner’s relatives can enter the port as well). We went to the port to support the inspections (roughly 5 hours on-site).
5. Once the vehicle is “desblocado” by the customs (in general 12 to 24h after the inspections) we could go to the “aduana port access office” (spotted in iOverlander). There we met with Bibiana Mendez to get our “permiso de salida”.
6. We brought this “permiso de salida” to the CICE office downtown to organize the final step.
7. Once green light received from CICE, we went back to the port to get our van out.
The ship arrived on a Sunday, we could get our van out of the port on Wednesday evening. Not everything went smooth however it’s feasible without an agent. We would recommend to contact Seamaritima in advance so you can save some time getting your paperwork ready for day 1.
