Description

Warning, high clearance, low gear,... hardcore nearly off road, sometimes. Most parts are ok and gravel road is well maintained. But no big rigs! Narrow, steep, bridge new! Full adventure from Semuc Champey to Senahu.
UPDATE SEPT 2018 - locals told us the track is now only passable by motorbikes. Rockfalls have blocked the track.

Latest Check-Ins

Did the route the other way around from Senahu to Semuc. Like last post, well maintained single lane dirt road in general, about 6 or 7 kms which are a bit more off road. Nothing very difficult. Bigger rigs could do this as well, but you'll need to bring your gardening equipment :)
Took us about 3hrs.

Report Check-In

The road is open. Traveled it on 9/27/18 in dry conditions. The first 10 Km are the most challenging. Narrow, steep and rocky in sections. Culminates in a long, moderately steep, washed out downhill. 4x4 required but nothing overly technical. Beyond that point the road was in fairly great shape. Single vehicle width the entire way with two way traffic, making passing an adventure. 3 1/2 hours to travel the 40 Km to Senahu in a 4x4 Sprinter van. Bea
utiful route.

Report Check-In

Locals in Semuc Champey told us there have been rock-falls on this track it is no longer passable (only motorbikes can get through to Senahu this way. The most direct route down to Lake Izabal is back via Lanquin, then turn right to Cahabon. That is a rough route - 4x4 not necessary, but high clearance is required.
