We parked at the closed entrance, next to the barrier. Great spot that is not visible from the main road. Very quiet and peaceful. Spent here the entire next day as well. Although the gate is closed, you can enter the Valle de la Luna (for free) by foot or bike. Lovely spot for one or more nights. The road to get there is an unpaved road, but we managed to get there with 2WD.
**Some washouts prevented us from making it all the way in Aug 2017, but you can camp anywhere on this road.**

Quiet and alone. Park rangers came around 6pm from inside the park and we asked if we could camp there. They said yes, but we couldn't enter the park. Windy with blowing sand!
Report Check-InWe went hiking into the park and a ranger eventually stopped us to ask for our ticket. We didn't have any and when we explained the situation, he told us that that entry in the park was closed and that we needed to pay for our ticket, but since we had no money on us, he let us walk back to our car.
Report Check-InNice spot! Stayed here for 2 nights. In the morning sometimes a car comes by...once they straight turned around and the other morning some young chilenien tourist parked to explore V.d.l.L.
Watch out, access will be pretty tough without high clearence cause of washed out street.
The entrance to Valle de la Luna is certainly closed, but you can definitely still camp here. However, continuing another three kms down the road and turning in at the radio antenna takes you to a much more beautiful remote spot.
