Description

3 lakes dedicated to the conservation of the flamingo. Entrance fee is 8000 pp. There is a 45 minute walk through the park with some interesting info all about the flamingo. There should be an audio tour abd guides available, but we didn't use them. The lakes are gorgeous with the Andes mountains behind them. When we visited there were flamingos. A no brainer if you ask us for this money if you have the time to check it out. It's about 55 km's from San Pedro, first 30 km's are paved, next is a hard gravel road but in good condition. Can drive 50+ km/h even with a 2WD

A very well done reserve. This is privately run by the local indigenous group. There are interpretive signs in Spanish and English about the Salar de Atacama as well as about flamingos, and the other local flora and fauna. We spent the day driving to the other local lagunas feeling none were worth the entrance fee, until we got to this one. We learned more facts here than we have from our guidebooks and travels throughout the region! Highly recommended. Bathrooms on site.

Update March 2024: 8000 pesos pp

Too expensive to see 15 flamengos!!!! 8000 pp between 7-11Y: 4000. Don’t really expect to see a lot. Little trail 40 min but nothing else. And 60km for this!…

Nice place to see flamingos (better to come in the morning or late in the afternoon) and salt lagunas.

Beautiful lagoons to watch 3 types of flamingos. If you ask rangers in spanish they give you a lot of additional information about the birds here.
Coming from south towards San Pedro it’s on the way.

Laguna is open again. Paid 8000 pesos per person, so definitely not cheap. Only a short walk, 400m, available. Cute picnic area. Very clean bathrooms. Road is in very good condition.

Beautiful laguna. Price 2500pp still and goes to the local community group. Bathrooms and shaded picnic area were spotless. One of the guys was even cleaning the info signs. Really worth a visit. The lagunas have some weird and whacky colours due to the bacteria, and you can see huge schools of brine shrimp. The flamingos were in the centre of the laguna, so too far for any good pics. Very peaceful, informative and well run. Road is fine, a bit corrugated in patches.

Worth the drive. Less tourists than further north two lakes. Road on decent shape even if dirt. Only few bad spots.

If you're going to pay for anything around San Pedro make it this Reserva Nacional, at least your money will go into conservation. Lots of information about the flamingos and other animals / birds in the area (in English also). Nice walk through crazy salt formations.
