Description

We camped at the iO spot at the trailhead, but had a nice chat with the owner Antonio of a parqueo at this location here. He offers parking during the day for 25q, staying overnight for 50q, baños available. His brother is a tour guide and they also offered to make tortillas for us. He asked us to recommend him and share his number: 30950211. We cannot say anything about it, except that he was a nice guy!

Très belle expérience avec Manolo, un guide passionné qui nous a fait découvrir le Pacaya et les autres volcans d''une manière unique et inoubliable. Atout du campement : on est au départ de la randonnée

Report Check-In

Manolo was a terrific guide and his house is an excellent base for climbing Pacaya. On his recommendation, we started hiking at 4:30am. Not only were we the first and only people on the mountain at that early hour, but we were able to see lava glowing in the darkness from the neighboring erupting El Fuego volcano, which was a bonus! We paid 50Q to park overnight, 100Q/person entry fee to enter the park and 300Q for Manolo’s guide fee. Manolo speaks some English, but his Spanish is very easy to understand as he speaks very slowly and clearly to explain the mountains, the natural history and flora and fauna. 👍🏼👍🏼

We stayed for the night on Manolo’s parking for 50Q. We then hiked the next morning from 6am to 11:30am. Very easy hike but we took our time. We had marshmallows at the top, that’s a great experience, the kids loved it of course ! We were 2 families in RV and did the hike together, 11 persons total. We paid 400Q for the guide and 50Q for entrance of NP for adults, 20Q for kids. Manolo is from the village, he is very nice, very patient, very knowledgeable, he was really a great guide, we highly recommend ! When you get there, you can park on his parking straight he said.

I felt much safer tent camping (as well as leaving my stuff behind while hiking) at Manolo's place than at the trailhead, which isn't super suitable for tents.

there's no lava at the moment (last flow was in May 2021) but it's still worthwhile, no need for a night hike with no lava. Manolo informed me that usually mornings are clear and afternoons more cloudy this time of year, so better to plan to camp and start off from the house first thing in the morning.

obviously if you camp here you'll be obliged to hire Manolo as a guide but it was worthwhile and not too expensive. I definitely recommend the 300 complete tour over the 200 volcano view.

my Spanish is medocre but Manolo was good at moderating and it was good practice for me.

Manolo guided us up the volcano, cooled marshmallows on the lava. They have horses for 200Q
Manolo guide fee was 300Q for 8 of us. Highly recommend staying here and using Manolo services. The kids and family here are super friendly.

We camped there and hiked up with Antonio. He is a good guide, has lots of stories to tell and will show you plants, rocks, and such. We normally prefer to hike on our own but it was worth going with him since he knows the area well. We've done more than we would have on our own.

The parking area is fine, there's one or two flat spots. 25q per van.

Really nice experience to stay with a local family. They are very welcoming and the kids are fun! Bring them some cookies!

We drove up the vulcano with jorge, and walked from there around 5 am. Saw a lot of red lava and a beautiful sunrise!

Big place to stay. You just park in front of Manolos house for 50q night. We arrived there at 5 pm, and at 6, we were climbing the pacaya volcano with Manuel. He was very nice with us and he knows a lot about the volcano. He charged us (5 people) 400q in total to get to the crater, plus 50q pp for the entrance ticket. The volcano was amazing, we could see the lava 20 metres from us. We left the next morning.

Antonio, Manolo and Jorge are indeed nice guys! Manolo saw us arriving with our camper and offered us to stay at his "parkinglot" at his house for free (including toilet). He lives here with his family and is also a guide. We agreed to walk with him to the Vulcano the next day at 6am before any other bus arrived. Bring some cookies for the kids, they will love it ;-) Friendly people and a nice experiance at our first day in Guatemala!
