Something not right?

Description

Instead of paying the ridiculous 50USD pppn to stay at one of the national park campsites inside the Nxai Pan park, when we turned up late evening, the ranger very kindly allowed us to camp just inside the gate under the staff car port. They even kept the toilets open for us, though they weren't in great condition. We didn't have to pay a cent! Can't guarantee this will be allowed every time, but if you do arrive late in the day it's definitely worth the question.

Really friendly rangers who allowed us to stay in the fenced area under the garage. Toilets were left open and there's a tap for water. Perfect

Really welcoming to us on our bicycles. We were allowed to camp in the fenced in area, and even got to see elephants as we were cooking our dinner. Toilets clean with toilet paper and soap and a tap right next to camping area with water perfect for drinking.

Given the dearth of accommodation options between Phuduhudu and Gweta, I decide to stay here for an evening. When I explained my situation to the rangers they were very accommodating! They allowed me to set up in the ‘garage’ area, left the ablutions open for me, and even brought me cold water. I was on a bicycle, so they understood my situation, not sure if the reception would be the same in a vehicle. All in all, a lovely free night of camping.

very kind everbody. I arrived with my motorbike, and they offered me to stay for the night.
A young guy, TABAG, let me a place in his house just at the gate where they have there room.
they offer me food for the night and coffee the morning.
they use to have travelers, as they offer directly to stay.
You can stay Outside at the gate or inside with them if you are alone.

We arrived at 5.30pm and explained that we wanted to enter the park at 6am but had no options to camp close by. This is really true, absolutely no camp grounds or even suitable bush camps around. The ladies at the office said they had to get permission from their manager first. They called him and he said it was fine. They directed us to their fenced “garage area”. They even offered us water. Super friendly and helpful. Perfect place to camp before entering the park in the morning. They said people had done this before. No issues.

Advice: organise the permit for the park when you arrive in the evening, because the ladies probably won’t be at the office until about 7am otherwise. They wanted us to sign in in the morning and said “just wait for us until we get here!!!” From previous experience we know this means hours later than the actual opening time!!

Free!!

We arrived at 17.45 and asked if we could stay for the night. (we used droopy eyes) First, she, the ranger, did not want us to stay. But when we told her that we had no alternative, she pointed us to stay at the "garage" just inside the park. There is a tap whit running water to use. They even closed the gate for safety if animals want to visit us.
This all for free. So we entered the park at 06.00 and went of for the whole day.
So very friendly staff to help us out.
