Description

Nice spot at the entrance building of the park. Next to the little house is a shelter, where you can pitch a tent, secure from rain. We asked the park ranger for permission and it was no problem, a very friendly guy. A bathroom with running water is behind the house (no shower). Big rigs can park on the parking lot beside. The road until here is a little bumby but even with rain ok.

Latest Check-Ins

We came to spend the day from Papallacta and The park guards let us spend the night here for free. It’s cold and rainy most of the time so be prepared the road to get here is bumpy and some of the hills are pretty steep, make sure you have a good momentum if you are in a Kombi home 😅. The park is just beautiful, the paramo is amazing and preserved. It’s definitely worth a visit. There is not much structure other than toilets.

Quite nice park for bears (early morning) but road through park is closed and forbidden to use. There are waking trails up to 6 hours. You can see bears, tapir and foxes.

Report Check-In

Was told by the ranger we could not spend the night here. He was rather short with us. We found out that cars are not allowed to drive through the park, and the Oyacachi town is not supposed to allow it, but they do. You cannot drive into the park from this entrance. Don't know who is right or wrong, but the ranger said we could not camp in the parking lot. Your experienc may vary. Also, no dogs allowed inside the park.

Report Check-In

As described. The road toll is now 5$. Ranger showed up at 5pm and wanted us to leave. After a very friendly discussion he let us stay for 1 night. Banos are brand new.

Drove up here to hike to the Lagunas and to check out camping possibilities. The hike was nice (lots of exotic plants and birds, beautiful scenery, well maintained paths), but it was pretty crowded on this sunny Sunday.

We returned to Peña Pivico (15 kms down and 1000 meters less altitude) where we cooked dinner without onlookers and spent our third night there.

Nice quiet place with amazing view. Safe, free, a good place to stop!

we came from oyacachi (we needed the 2$ permission to take this road). from oyacachi upto here (incluiding detour to lake salva faccha) we did the 43 km in 3hours with our 2x4 sprinter camper van. here the guard was very nice and explained the possible walks. we were allowed to stay overnight for free, use their baños and nonpotable water. at 5pm the two foxes came for a short visit. great nature. here we had claro reception (there is none in oyacachi).

Rangers very friendly. We use the bathroom and we saw the fox! Beautiful place!

Guardaparques muy agradables y amistosas. Usamos el baño y vimos el zorro de los páramos. Lindo lugar.

We saw a Paramo fox! But we didn’t see another Paramo Fox:( rest camping all along on the road in the park.

Nice walk in the park. We tryed to camp (in car) but the guard wasnt that friendly maybe we look wierd 😄. So after we finished walk moved to the climbing area. Should be good place for tent campers....

Report Check-In

We saw paramo fox here, right by the parking lot. The ranger told on the way here you have chance to spot tapir. They also claim there are bears, but even the ranger didn't meet one.
There are two short walks, one to mirador another go through cloud forest to a waterfall. And there are 3 longer trails (one-way 1~5 hours each) go up into paramo and passby lagunas. The ways are in good condition, but the weather was quite hummid and chill. There was another fox.
