Description

Here are the ruins. Parking is free. Entrance is 345 Lempiras per person (foreign tourist) for just the ruins.

Tunnels and museum are extra. Rumor is that the tunnels are not worth the extra money. You will find guides here as well.

We have read that they are a good idea, but they are a little too expensive for us today.

Prices have increased further for foreigners. Here are the new prices:
- Archaeological park and burials: US$ 20 / 500L
- Tunnels: US$ 15
- "Escultura" museum: US$ 5
- Regional archeology museum: US $ 5
Children pay the adult price from 6 years old (!). It is possible to pay by credit card.
If you come from Mexico and Guatemala and you have had the opportunity to visit other archaeological sites this site will certainly not seem exceptional to you, only the finely engraved stelae are incredible. The macaws in freedom are also very pretty to observe. In the end the cost is far too high compared to the other archaeological sites that we visited.
Beware of the guards, we were the first on the site and 2 of them followed us, constantly telling us that it was forbidden to take photos without a permit, but that they could make an exception against a little money. We reported the problem to the site manager who seemed upset with their behavior.
For information, the "Las Sepulturas" site is 1km away, you have to leave the main site to get there, there is a parking lot. This site is not incredible from a visual point of view.

For dog owners :
Dogs are not allowed to enter the site. Three options:
1. Leave your dog in the car, parking in the shadow available.
2. have a (fake) certificate that says that your dog is an emotional support animal. that actually worked for friends of us today. they could take the dog inside.
3. between the welcome center and the actual entrance there is a woman who takes care of the dog during your visit for 200l. her regular job is taking pictures of visitors with Maya masks on. phone +504 9921 2170

Yes, why would you not?
The tunnels opened again last week for the first time in three years.
Very interesting to see the ruins as they were being built.
The Macaws!!!
The largest hieroglyph of the known maya world on the staircase 2000 over 62 stairs.
That is all I will say

Nice and interesting archeological site. Big parking lot at the entrance. 15 USD /pp. Ticket covers the main ruins site, and the separate "sepulturas" site . Museum is addition 7 USD /pp. Tunnels were NOT open (due to rainy season or covid?) but usually are extra 15 USD.
Guides at the entrance will ask for 30 USD for 2h tour.
We took the guide and we find it worth it, otherwise the ruins itself don't have explanations and are fairly quick to just walk through.
PS: the site is also hosting a repopulation project for Scarlet Macaw. there are 21 of them now flying free around the site and they are really beautiful to see!

We just wanted to add that if you have a well-behaved dog, the lady of the souvenir shop on the right hand side of the ticketing booth will keep an eye out (for a 100L) so you can visit the ruins :)

Foreigners pay 5 times as much which is a discriminatory practice especially when considering that EU helped fix the international road which passes the ruins and USA helped investigate this archeological site while locals tend to be the ones causing higher cost to run this place because they requiere more supervision so that they don't scribble on stones, litter or fall of places while taking selfies.

528HNL per person for the Ruins and Museo de Esculturas. The ticket for the ruins also included Las Sepulturas, located down the road. If you don't want to see the Museo, then your cost will be a bit lower. Lovely archeological site and museum. There's a gift shop, a restaurant, and some vendors on site as well.

Nice ruins. We thought the tunnels weren't worth $15pp extra, but I guess the only way for you to be sure is to go and check them out for yourself 😀

really enjoyed these ruins. as for me there are really different from Tikal and chitchen itza; there is less incredible architecture but there is definitely more amazing Stella and sculptures ; especially the hieroglyphics stairs. worth the stop. and as a bonus you get to see free macaws (which were freed by the mascaw rescue center that we visited too ; nice visit too). as for the tunnels we did not feel to pay extra for this. the ruins are located in a nice jungle too

We enjoyed our time here. We have been to many sites as we have travelled through Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and El Salvador and this place has its own individuality.
Is it worth paying to see the tunnels? I would say yes. We were glad we did. It gave us another dimension to the Mayan experience.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place, you cam see a lot of birds there ( specially Guacamayas).

If you already saw Tikal or Chichen Itza so you saw more less everything
