Description

Very beautiful place on the rim, with view on the Rio Grande. Very Quiet. There's one pit toilet near the main parking area. Accessible with 2wd but beware of the deep ruts, and don't come here if it's going to rain. Excellent T Mobile and AT&T service.

What a gem! Very nice little campground! Just a few sites with picnic tables but there are more “wild” places to camp around where people build fire rings with stones.
It was a little tricky to get here, because Google and our navigation system did not know the right way and had send us to an other forest road which was unpassable even with our 4x4.
All you need to do is to stay on the main unpaved road and this road will lead you to the campsite.
If it’s not rainy or snowy you can do it with a 2WD, just go slow and carefully.
And please take your trash with you!

Nice spot, very quiet. The road was snowy and easy to drive because almost flat. GPS navigation with both OSMAND and Google maps was erratic

No fee NF cg with out house. Road would definitely be a challenge for a passenger car.

Wow, what a beautiful place. Made it here just fine in a six window skoolie, though the road is deeply rutted in places. Several relatively flat spots to park right along the rim. So quiet at night, and so many stars. Some people come during the daytime to use the trail, but at night there's hardly anyone here. Absolutely zero trash, so let's keep it that way! Don't miss the hike down to the Rio Grande, it starts right from the campsite. Saw some lizards, a hummingbird, and a fish jump out of the river.

The wheels of previous cars carved in the road really deep, but you can get there. The place has a nice view, enough place, a pit toilet with paper, fire rings and the trail to the river. No trash cans. We liked it!

Still free. Signs posted discuss fees in 2021, but nothing as of now. When you arrive, there are a couple spots to the left, and many to the right. However, the road to the right get very rutted very quickly and nothing but a small high clearance vehicle could get very far. There are a number of spots near the parking lot however so if you make it there, you should find a place to camp. If you can make it further on the road, there are many VERY isolated camp spots you would likely never see anyone. And for the hike down, there is a bridge now connecting the two trails at the bottom so you can plan a longer hike if wanted. The hike down is great, don't skip it.

Absolutely amazing campsites with sweeping views of the Rio Grande River Gorge. Picnic tables, fire rings, and clean restroom onsite. Currently free but saw a sign saying they may begin charging in 2022. Also has an awesome hike starting right at the camp, going down to the Rio Grande River. No road access issues when we were there.

We showed up on 5/5/2020 and there was a sign at the entrance saying the campground was closed. We parked near the pond right before the entrance so we will see what happens tonight.

DO NOT go if it’s raining, gonna rain, or just rained!

The campground itself is amazing. Multiple spots right on the edge of the rio grande. When we drove out there it was just on a very nice dirt road. Then a thunderstorm moved in... we were out there maybe 10minutes of it raining and decided to leave because of our concern of road conditions. I’m glad we did! It was total mud, we were sliding everywhere. I have no clue how we didn’t get stuck or slide off the road. I grew up in Alaska driving under terrible conditions, this was worse!
