If you come to Cape Town as a foreigner to buy a vehicle/motorcycle, you will need to obtain a traffic registration ID. This document allows you to register vehicles in your full name.
The process is simple:
- Bring passport with Visa or tourist stamps.
- Bring two black and white passport photos.
- Bring a proof of long term accommodation rental agreement.
- Bring a utility bill (water, electricity or similar).
- Fill out the white form "Application and notice in respect of traffic register number."
Come in the morning, fill out all the paperwork and hand it in.
Open weekdays from 08.00-15.30
Saturdays from 08.00-11.30
Come back three days later and it should be done.
