Something not right?

Description

Untrustworthy mechanic who really didn't seem to know his stuff. Wanted to completely remove and bypass our thermostat, for what turned out to be a simple radiator leak. Also charged us through the nose to simply use his phone (as there was no cell reception). He wound up charging over 700mxp for us just to call our insurance a few times. There's gringo tax, and then there's taking advantage of people having zero alternative options. And then he had the nerve to ask for a tip on top of that!

There is also a tow truck (grua) on the same property, phone number: 01 200 124 9117. We didn't use them so can't comment.

Latest Check-Ins

We used the tow service(Grua).

Friday we broke down (turned out to be our PCM) 15 miles off HWY 1, in quite literally the middle of nowhere. Hiked out to HWY(that’s an entirely different story, prettiest hike ever ;) and they met us there(with an inadequate towing vehicle) not sure a bigger truck would of been able to manage the rocky terrain regardless, but 2WD with bald tires got us back to the HWY, using a tow rope and a well connected and willing local community coming to aid when needed. By the time we reached the actual flat bed tow truck in Santa rosalita, we had 4 different trucks tow us (and our original tower) at some point-8 hours total. From there we were taken to the shop in punta prieta (truck stop town) and put up in one of the mechanics 2 rooms for rent. Monday we were towed to Guerrero Negro to take the vehicle to a proper electrical mechanic.

We were told $29,000Pesos for desert tow, and $8000 for GN. 😳 We we’re able to negotiate down to $27,000 total saving ourselves approx $500USD.

It was tricky with mediocre spanish, and very little English. There is definitely a gringo tax, and they are utilizing it to the utmost, we held our ground though.

If needed they are the only tow truck company in the area, they run 24 hours and have 5 big trucks.

Big shout out to the crew Panchito (driver) and Miguel(mechanic) who showed up and made it happen, smiles on their faces with cold water and beer for us the whole way.

Had used brake caliper and rotor for our truck but wanted 150 for both rusty and used. If your in a pinch they’ll have stuff for a 7.3 diesel but unwilling to negotiate prices.
