For Kenya you need to apply online for the eVisa. If you spend more than 7 days in Kenya, then you must pay a foreign vehicle fee, $40 for one month, $100 for three months for a Toyota Land Cruiser. Fee has to be paid at the bank which is closed Saturday afternoons and Sundays. But they manage to find a person who pays online and whom you can pay in cash (KES). Just takes more time. Very helpful staff and calm atmosphere. You might get a
personal clearing agent assigned who organises all paperwork.
Jan 2024 update: You can change USD at the border so no need to go to the bank

no atm at this border however a runner can change Tanzania schillings in Kenyan schillings & this must be paid at the bank located at the border the runner will do this for you no problem

Beware : Tan -> Kenya you have to pay USD 40.00 for the road (normal vehicle, 1 month) so before hand stop at NMB just before the border to change TSH to KSH or USD. When we passed, we couldn’t pay by card at the border so we had to go back to Tanzania side to withdraw tsh and change them to ksh.
Also beware NMB is closed on Sunday.
Highly recommendable and calm border post! I just managed to cross with my German-registered car from Tanzania to Kenya. They accepted my German Covid test certificate. For land border crossing into Kenya these test certificates are valid for 14 days instead of just 96 hours which applies for airborne arrivals only! I got a personal clearing agent assigned on Kenyan side who managed insurance, carnet and road tax for me.

Very quiet one stop border post with incredible people who are so helpful. You have to put your laugage out of the for scan.
You get the East Africa Visa without any problems. It’s not necessary to apply online - you will get directly at the border. Be sure that you have the visa fee ( 100$ ) in cash with you. There is no ATM around and no black market. No road fees for the car.

Well organised and laid out border post. One stop, one building. The staff are incredibly helpful and happy. We were there during lunch so it took a little longer but an easy border post. There is no atm. A Tanzanian imm. officer called someone to come to the border from the gate so that we could change money. There were no costs for the car traveling with a carnet.
Report Check-InKenya-->Tanzania. Easy one-stop. Checked out of Kenya, paid TIP for Tanzania (46000tzs for 30days). There's an ATM for Tanz shillings. Took about 45min.
Report Check-InEasy one stop border. We went from Tanzania to Kenya, no hassle as we had everything we needed (yellow card insurance and carnet). Before you enter you have to show your vaccination booklet. After that you will find the visa registration on the rivht side and all car related issues on the left. We paid $50,- for a Kenyian visa and no extra costs for the car (road tax).

Registration of the car far more complicated 25us but you can’t pay at the border James very nice chap insurance broker took me to the bank in town were I paid Tanzanian shillings of course black market to change... but worked!

Entered from Tanzania to Kenya . There Open 24h / 7 days per week we were told. Took us with Carnet two hours. We are a big rig. They charge distance in kilometers as Road tax. Helpful staff. Visa 50 usd pp and road tax we paid in Kenyan shilling.
