Description

Absolutely stunning private park, only accesible by boat and with prior reservation. These coordinates are at the ferry dock of Punto Maldonado which is were the park rangers pick you up and whisk you off by speedboat to the other side of the lake where the trail starts just beside the big waterfall. The park is basically one trail up the valley through pristine Valdivian rainforest, with beautifull waterfalls, gorges, massive Alerce trees (some older than 2000 years!) and beautiful lakes. Accomodation is only at two rustic mountain refugios which offer a place to stay, water and woodstove, guests take sleeping bag, mat, cutlery and food. Together with 2 others we were the only ones in the park but we've heard it can get busy in summer. That said, the park's capacity is 42 people per day. We paid 30.000 pesos each for entrance, one night at refugio and speedboat transfers. Check parquetaguatagua.cl for further details. Highly recommended!!

Latest Check-Ins

Reservations and payment needed to be made 48 hours in advance. We did reserve but they wanted us to pay through local banking but we didnt have a local bank account. We took the ferry in to pay in cash to secure the spot a day before our overnight hike, waited in the rain for 2 hours for the ranger who didn’t show up and it turned out he thought we were going to pay on the day itself though we arranged on whatspp to pay the day before (on the email reservation they said prepayment was needed to secure the refugio spot). There was no reception on rainy days at both side of the piers so we couldnt find out what was going on

In the end we drove on to llanada grande to get reception and ended up doing small hikes around the valley inside for free which we were happy with. This tagua tagua park would have costed 33k pesos per person for a night in the refugio, entrance and boat transfer just to see one lake which was expensive. Looks nice in the pictures but because it was pandemic season, they didnt provide anything in the refugio, no gas no sleeping bag no kitchen utensils none of the usual provisions in the normal year yet the price was the same

Im still not sure if it is worth it
