Mexico
Due to volcanic activity the road is closed from the visitors center to popo. It seems like the closure is semi-permanent/intermittent. I'm not sure how often so you may want to call ahead or proceed with caution as it may be closed.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Just came here to say it’s open. We went. You register and can go up immediately. You can also rent crampons here for the climb!
Report Check-InRoad still closed... I bet it’s closed quite a lot judging by the volcanic activity. And due to “la pandemia” (I bet we are going to hear that a lot in the coming decade!) the road to La Jolla is also closed. Access is possible by prior booking or hiking.
Report Check-InThe dirt road up to La Joya is now closed to vehicles, unless you register and book ahead of time with the National Park Service. You can hike the road but you have to pay 50pesos entry fee at the visitor centre.
We were pretty bummed as were looking forward to taking the bikes up there.
Paved road towards Popó still closed.
Don't be like me a freak out before reading all the comments.
We got there, and I was totally bummed out seeing the closure. But you can still get through to the other side. You just go down the dirt road. Not nearly the cause for anguish I thought it was.
The dirt road does suck though. At first it's nice, but then it gets bumpy. Totally worth it though.
Report Check-InIt seems there is a permanent road closure heading up popo at a three way intersection, this does not impact the road up/down to and from the visitors center.
Report Check-InThe road are now open! You have to pay 50$MXN for the camping now! Enjoy!
Report Check-InThe road is still closed. We even couldn’t stay overnight at the parking lot on the summit. There was too much volcanic activity.
Report Check-InRight now the road heading east is open. It is not too bad and can be driven with most vehicles.
Report Check-Inroad is still closed going east, due to volcanic activity. visitors center is open, as is the dirt road to la joya
Report Check-InThe road closure concerns the road up to the Popocatepetl. It is no problem to take the dirt road from the Visitor Center to Cholula.
Report Check-Inroad heading up to popo i still closed. the dirtroad heading towards puebla is open though.
