Description

Spooky Canyon is a slot Canyon to an old mine. We didn't bring in flash lights and turned back before finding a mine. It's pretty neat short hike. be careful for falling rocks and debris. the fun part starts where you need the flash light.

It’s possible to get here in a 2wd van. Road is rough though. Like others say, take exit 230. Mojave to Silias road is good to baker. When you cross under a railroad bridge, stick to the right (north)) side. There will be an elevated compact dirt/gravel road that runs parallel to the train tracks. Spooky is at railroad bridge 19476.

Perfect place to stay at the end (or beginning) of the Mojave Road.
Frequently trains passing by but don't sound the horn usually.

We used exit 230 as per another's recommendation. The road starts off as a nice dirt road but soon it got quite sandy. I was worried about sinking into the sand in my 2wd GMC Savana but alas the vanlife gods were kind to us and we kept going. The canyon is quite interesting. It is right near the location and is next to the train track. There r four areas where a rope is there to assist with the climb. At times it is very dark so bring flashlights. It is not very long before you have emerged out the other end and r no longer in the canyon. We camped for the night in the huge dry river bed a bit away from the train track.

if you do not have high clearance vehicle and 4x4 do not take exit 221 of I15 when i was there in winter there is one water crossing and water was really deep i have toyota land cruiser with 35" tires and 4" lifta when i was driving thru water it was on my hood water was at least 3' deep so go to exit 230 and come down you can make that run with regular car with no problem and entrance to canyon is right by the small rail road bridge on north side of the road
bring flashlight and be ready to klmb

WOW what for a great canyon! If you don't have an 4WD car with high floor clearance and a low roof ( max 10-12ft) , you have to hike from the Afton canyon campsite around 4 miles one way to here. It's a very narrow and steep canyon. On some passages you have to climb up steep walls with an rope. The ropes are there, and in an really good condition. So you have to bring only a torch or better a headlamp with you. Be sure, that you can climb up a wall from around 20ft hight with the rope's. Then it's an amazing trip!
