Description

Travelling many dusty kilometres through various versions of Himba villages, dodging goats and cattle, staring in awe at the rock marvels along the way and finally, one more hill and there it is… a green oasis of Makalani Palms hiding the very essence of this place; Epupa Falls.
Right here, on the edge of this small desert wonder, is the heart of Epupa, Epupa Falls Lodge & Campsite. It has been here forever, since before the arrival of tour buses and self-drive tourists from every nation across the globe. Back in the day, it was only a campsite with a fantastic view, now it is both lodge and campsite at one of the most marvellous places in Namibia.
The Cunene region is already very popular for the Ovahimba tribe, the river and the spectacular falls. We have now added a new dimension to this.
From any of the 5 river-view chalets, you have a breath-taking view right onto the falls. There is also 3 family chalets and a honeymoon chalet on ground level. Not only are the chalets built from mostly local materials, but the river-view chalets are also built on stilts that bring you even closer to nature.
When the view from your room isn’t good enough anymore, why not join us on the deck for a drink from our very popular bar or even a snack from Christa’s kitchen? While enjoying an ice-cold beer, you can tap the knowledge of Koos Verwey who has been here for no less than 30 years. He started here and is now synonymous with the far northwest of the Cunene region. He has a solid reputation for his dedication and loyalty to the local people.
The experience of Koos in this area will ensure that your activities are special; whether you go on tour to the local people; go for a hike or a day journey through the area.
Combine all this and flavour it with delicious homemade meals, this is the recipe for a well-deserved break at EPUPA FALLS LODGE & CAMPSITE.

Epupa Falls Lodge & Campsite can be reached by any type of car during the dry season and the closest airstrip is 7 km away.

Latest Check-Ins

After a long drive from Opuwo. This campsite was definitely an oasis and much needed. Clean and neat, we were the only campers for one night, stayed for 2. Showers and toilets open air which is great in the heat, hot water showers. Friendly staff, bar facilities and you can order fresh bread from the local lady. R200 p/p/p/n

Report Check-In

Very nice camp at the rivetside. Staff was friendly. Restaurant has limited choise, but is good. 400N$ for 3 course menu or 300 N$ for only the main. Pool is super, is cleaned every day. We stayed 4 days. 200pppn.

Report Check-In

Strange vibe..........We prebooked for two days so stayed...Since owner died end of October 23, quality control has left I think...The lack of toilet paper was the only camp in three weeks that didn't provide..Don't get this but ok.....The pool is bright green from Algae..Location on the river is great...We just didn't understand the staffs attitudes...I told the restaurant manager about some guests who'd left their car lights on and they couldn't be bothered to find them....They just seemed lazy and didn't care..... Great lizards of all colors running around and a few good size monitor lizards...
Seemed to be a lot of flies so keep your food fresh.

Hiking in the area is nice but bring water ..

We loved it here! Stayed in site 4, which was nice. Great view and still somewhat private. Can hear the roar of the falls and nothing else. The vibe is very relaxed and tranquil. It was one of the busier places we've stayed, but everyone was very chill. The pool was nice to cool down in hot afternoons. 200 pppn.

Superb location. Some sites better than others. Sites are small. Ablutions are basic - hot water Solar powered but good. No toilet paper - BYO. $N 400 per night booked online and paid by card.

Friendly reception and offers of activities by staff were friendly and not too pushy.

I would recommend site 3-6.

Site 2 (ours) - overlooked by owners house, not private & extremely sunny in the afternoons but probably the best view of the throat of falls): everything a trade off.

Power off for camp at 9pm but not in ablutions or owners house (issue with site 2 & 3).

Site 8 - not quite sure where you’d camp

Site 1 - underneath the restaurant stairs but gets shade in afternoon and can enjoy hammock underneath restaurant deck overlooking falls.

Pool nice and cool For hot afternoons.

Walk down next to river can be self guided easily - follow your nose. Afternoon best. Also Go up To the viewpoint worth the N$50pp for the Birds Eye view of falls.

Decided to have dinner at restaurant one evening (tired and feeling lazy) - pricey for what you got…. Set menu. Main course tasty but entree and desert average.

That said enjoyed our stay. Just pick your site.

Absolutely wonderful place. Camping right on the river. Very nice facilities1. Site restaurant. Great to sleep with the sound of the waterfalls. Falls viewpoint is at the end of the lodge and free. There is another viewpoint on the hill but you have to pay

What a location!! Right on the water, falling asleep to the sound of the waterfall is truly magical and one of our favourite sunsets in Namibia. Unfortunately only one night as we had bookings for Etosha, but would have happily spent another 2 on the river by the bar or by the pool. Friendly staff, clean amenities, laundry and massages on offer, as well as fresh rolls and bread when we climbed from our rooftop at 7am!! 150pp p/n

Epupa falls is amazing and really worth it! Even if it takes you some time but its breathtaking! I really cant understand why people say its not worth it to go there. For us it was one of the best places in Namibia and absolutely peaceful. We met so nice people and got traditional namibian food cooked by a woman of the village. Her name is Esmeralda. Her aunt Lavie works in the campsite and she contacted Esmeralda. Both are so lovely and we enjoyed our time with them a lot! If you want to have a nice experience with traditional food and interesting talks contact them. You wont regret :)
The contact details of Esmeralda for food or a tour is: +264814990194

Great campsites right on river above the falls. Nice clean pool with blue water and lounge chairs. Best dinners we have had in the area with fresh vegetables and herbs from the garden. Staff friendly and the owner Koos extremely knowledgeable about the area and Namibia. We were just going to stay one night and ended up staying many more. 200N/pp and well worth it! Highly recommend this camp.

Report Check-In

Prime, prime, prime property directly on the edge of the falls! Attention to detail and staff extremely friendly. Palm trees provide shade, although they can also act as weapons when the leaves fall off, so be careful where you setup camp. Stunning pool! Elevated bar deck that almost suspends ober the river directly on top of the falls. Highly recommended!

Report Check-In

Highly recommended. We stayed in a chalet with georgeous view on the falls. Staff as well as Urs(owner) are very friendly and helpful. Food was just amazing, 3-4 course dinner 300 pp, which is pricey but its defently worth it.
We will be back for sure some day.
Road from Opuwo to Epupa is in ok condition and can be done also with small 4*4 like a Dacia Duster and i can imagine its even possible with a 2*4 car.

Report Check-In

Epupa Falls Lodge & Campsite is privately own and run - which makes for an exceptional experience. Koos has been in the area for +- 30 years, so to tap into his wealth of knowledge is an evening not to forget.
The lodge and campsite also have fresh borehole water, solar electricity during the daylight hours, a fabulous restaurant and deck bar and if you feel like it - dip into the pool for a very welcome cool down.

Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

Nice camp. As described by others. They wanted to charge us 200 pppn. We stayed 2 nights and negotiated to 150 pppn. Pool is murky I guess because it is filled with river water. Beware of falling palm nuts and leaves. Bar is open in the evening restaurant only if you order in advance. No electricity nor drinking water.

Report Check-In

Beautiful campsite directly at the riverfront. Clean ablutions, HOT water, reasonable pool, many huge palm trees (beware of falling nuts), friendly reception staff, 150pppn during Covid times.

Report Check-In

RATHER STAY AT CAMP CORNIE 30kms EAST!
Although this campsite had a cool location and is very convenient at the falls, it did not have any privacy/personality.
Please spend the time, as we wish we did to go down the road to Camp cornie instead. You will not regret it.

Report Check-In

Nice spots along the river, dark and only nature sounds at night. Each spot has its own dish washing sink. Good hot shower. Bar is open. Internet with voucher (10 N$ for 30 min). Swimming pool. Dinner available upon booking until 4 pm (but they only had standard meals like chicken or steak that were frozen and had to be thawed, so we did not go for it). When it is windy, the palm trees like to lose some branches, so watch out. 200 N$ ppn. There was a local guide around offering several hikes aso from 200 N$ per person. Smoking is not allowed!

Report Check-In

We loved this place! Very nice setting just in front of the river and waterfalls. It's so completely different compared to the rest of Namibia. Very green area and so much water. Campsite has a great restaurant with a fantastic view on the river, a pool and lots of palmtrees. Staff is very helpful and friendly. A bit expensive with 200 N$/person/night.

Report Check-In

Nice clean campsite with River and vieuw at the falls, clean open Air ablutions!

Report Check-In

Right by the falls so it’s noisy, but expected. The price is now N$200pppn. A decent campsite nonetheless.

Report Check-In

Great campsite with beautiful rooftop terrace, from where you have a good look over the Epupa Falls, especially at sunset. Otherwise everything as stated below: Braii, wifi for voucher, new, clean pool, clean semi outside showers and toilets - water comes from the river!
150 N$ pp.
Somehow when we were here, everyone was staying at this campsite and no one was going to Omarunga Lodge...cause the gate was closed, the campsite seemed closed, but was open. Price there is now 190 N$ pp.

Report Check-In

In front of the river and you can hear the Epupa waterfalls.:so beautiful view! 15 pitches with braai, water to wash the dishes and shadow (plenty of big trees). No electricity, no light: better to watch the stars!!! hot showers, clean toilets, bar, restaurant. only two small problems for us: no garbage in the pitch and no toilet paper in the toilets!
wifi in the restaurant if you buy voucher.
big, new and clean swimming pool with bar. we loved it!
price in november 2017:125 pppn.
