Description

- If you want to avoid the paid campsite inside the park, there is a small dead end dirt track forking of the park access road a few meters before the park boundary. It leads to small clearing, surrounded by trees. We drove to the end of the track where we were visible from the road and rangers showed up in the morning to tell us it is not allowed to camp in the national park. According to the map and sign this place is out of the park bounds though. If you park halfway down the track, not at the end, you shouldn't be visible from the road.

The right hand turn to this place is about 50 meters before the gate to the park. We asked at the gate if we could camp here and were told no problem.

From the gravel road it’s probably 40 meters through the trees. The little road dead ends at a couple of spots. 2wd easily gets the job done. We are in a Land Cruiser. Anything larger would likely get some pinstripe.

This place is just ok. Tons of horseflies this time of the year. Would try to find a more open place but it’s very convenient for the early morning hike (gate says 9am). Be sure to online register before arriving and get your QR code.

Perfect place. We asked to sleep day before trekking and they said ok. No problem. Quiet. Place for 3-4 rigs. Ok for Big rigs. Felt safe. Day for trekking there is another big parking to start trail to glacier. 3h to mirador

Report Check-In

Perfect spot. Right before the gate. Check the dates on the website beforehand cause the park is closed on certain dates currently because of work inside.

Best place to stay to visit the park the next morning

We spent one night there, the day before de visited the Ventisqueto Colgate. When you turn form the Carretera Austral, there is camping. Do not stop there, keep going on the gravel track even though it says campers are not welcomed. We parked just in front of the gate to the park, there is a plain gravel side and we spent a very quiet night. Some guardaparque were there but no one bothered us. We think campers are not accepted inside the park but in front of the gates it seems ok

extremely beautiful place. entrance is narrow because of a large boulder placed on the road (to block it for large rigs?), my L300 van fit, but very tightly

Report Check-In

small pull in before the entrance gate. not much space, probably 2 or 3 cars max. rangers told us at the park info centre we were not allowed to camp but didnt have anyone bother us in the night.

Amazing spot, quiet in the night, hidden from the park entrance they close the park gate around 8.30 pm better make sure not to be seen.

Nice wild camping spot. We were there in high season, but we were the only ones there. It’s next to the fence of the national park, but it is on the outside of the park boundry so we thought it was okay to camp there.

Report Check-In

7 of us camped there and no one
Told us to leave.

Note to those traveling this way: ioverlander is very used a lot by backpackers here and all of the sites we found on the app were already used by people. If you want a spot for yourself, gotta find it the old school way.

We were not sure if we would be allowed to camp here. But no one came by to see us so we stayed. The place is just outside the NP's fence. We is enough space for 2 cars to stay here and also some tents.
The next day we went to visit the NP. We hiked and then we were able to go inside the campground and to take a hot shower !

According to my map this place is in the park and there is also the park gate you have to pass to get there. Therefore we didn't stay there with our dog.
