This is an abandoned building on private land, but doesn't look to ever be used. For cyclists heading to El Chalten in the headwind, this small room is a godsend. The river 200m away has drinking water.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Stopped here for the night to find two cyclists already set up inside, and another two joined shortly after. No problem as it was a still night, but worth keeping in mind it could be busy if it’s blowing a gale. There’s space inside for four people to cowboy camp (it would be a squeeze).
Quite a lot of poop around, dig a hole please!
Report Check-Instopped here to have lunch. surprisingly clean, smooth concrete floor. no roof, missing door and window facing east
Report Check-InNice Windshelter! But no roof ... could get ugly when it rains
Really try to ride in the morning, as there is far less wind
Report Check-Instayed in this perfect little shelter on our way to El Chalten to hide from the head wind.
10/10 shelter, clean and perfectly isolated from the wind.
take good care of it.
The gate in the fence 100m from the building can be opened to avoid lifting the bike or remove the paniers.
Report Check-InWe removed panniers and lifted them and our bikes over the fence. This building had a very clean room with a plywood panel that could be secured over the southern door opening. Rather than push for a 2 day ride from El Chalten to El Calafate, we are making it a 4 day ride and enjoying the "calmer" winds of the mornings and taking the afternoons off. This was an incredible place, very quiet and YES the winds were wicked in the late afternoon.
Report Check-InThis is a life saver after a day pedaling at 8km/h speed by bike... we set up the tent there and we got to have sunshine in the morning and it was warm enough to go with shorts :) once we went on the wind we had to get more clothes on... :)
Report Check-Inan absolute godsend. we were struggling along the road in headwinds for hours to get to this place and it was well worth it. Pretty much just a shed, but big enough for a two, maybe three man tent. river nearby did have water
