Great place with several camp sites free. 1 mile from paved road. Fire ring , tables, toilet, water not potable
(Coming from the north, drive 1/2 mile passing the picnic area. Once you make the next left, signs to primitive camping will guide your way)
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
The road leading to the site is broken because of a flash flood. Bypass was created (can be seen in Google Earth, but it is not acceptable anymore to big rigs 😔
Report Check-InBeautiful site. An Annual Limited Use Pass is only $12 but needs to be purchased in Alpine PRIOR to arrival. The fee is $500 if your caught without a pass. We didn’t want to risk it and went a mile north to the rest stop.
Report Check-InIt was great! You can hear the road a bit the distance, but really quiet at night.
Report Check-InIt's closed from the day after Thanksgiving till half December. The ranger advised us to overnight at the picnickplace on the road. We did
Report Check-InHello
So great place to park your motorhome for the night
Some much cow watch you when you drink your beer
Thank you for this place....we are alone in the desert
No problem with a 26" RV.
My navigation tried to send me where there is no road before I came to the picnic area. I parked in the corner and it was fine. I reread the comments and saw to keep going. So glad I did.
This place is great! The picnic area was fine, but I’d be right next to the traffic road in the morning. Right now, I just woke up and relaxing in my own zone at my own pace. Thank you Texas for this fantastic spot to call home for the night.
Report Check-InPass the picnic area on the left as you are heading south and look for the Elephant Mountain wildlife management area sign with the red gate on the left hand side about 600metres away. There will be signs for primitive camping about 1/2 mile in on the unpaved road. About 10 sites with picnic tables and shelter. Pretty good free set up. 2 other campers here.
Report Check-Inso incredibly peaceful, covered picnic tables at each site, fire ring, gravel road, pit toilet (bring your own paper). Nonpotable water.
Report Check-InIt is Not the Picnic place at the hwy. Entrance is half a Mile south. But you can Stay there too. No Traffic in the night.
Report Check-InElephant Mountain WMA. About 1 hour outside of the west entrance of Big Bend National Park. Free. As described. Saw a herd of deer and a kangaroo rat while there.
No AT&T service.
Report Check-InAwesome spot. Numerous sites each with a shelter and picnic table. Most have fire pits and some have BBQ equipment. Single pit toilet which isn't well serviced but does the job. Road to access campground is gravel with almost no washboarding and should be fine for any vehicle. No cell reception with Google Fi.
Report Check-InThis place is great. As described but each site also has a large shelter. Nobody here on a Friday night. Great views. Good job Texas!
