Description

This is "Carlos" repair shop for 4 x 4 cars and trucks. Carlos is a super friendly Peruvian mechanics professional. He is happy to give overlanders a secure overnight place with some basic infrastructure ... even your car is ok ;-) You'll find water, toilet, showers, sinks and electricity. The price for overnight parking is absolutely fair and negotiable. The town Chaclacayo is safe and beautiful. Everything you need, you'll find in walking distance.

Carlos ONLY speaks spanish. But even I made it with almost no Spanish skills.

Carlos would be happy, if you send him a WhatsApp in advance (+51 956 684 492). You can try without, but you might have to wait, if he is out.

Checkout the photos to see how the almost hidden entrance and the place itself looks like. Give Carlos a hug, he became a good friend of mine.

Strongly recommended ! Carlos helped us as much as he could, even though our truck was stuck in another garage. He was available, attentive and tried in every possible way to help us, a huge thank you to him!

Definetly a recommendation! Parked my motorbike here for 4 month. Easy process, Carlos does everything necessary. He is very friendly and helps you with every problem. For example he welded the broken frame of my bike.

Still 3,5 Soles per day. If you camp there 5 Soles extra for each day. To leave the bike it took 5 days at the beginning. When I came back it took two an a half weeks to get my new TIP (normally it should be faster, but the Sunat was not working for one week due the fiestas patrias) - so maybe just bad luck.

This is a great place if you want to store vehicles. We stored our motorcycles here for two months. They were stored safely in his house. It was by far the cheapest place to store a motorcycle in/near Lima. We paid 3.50soles per day, but we had offers up to 5 US$ a day... Carlos made all the papers for us, and he was very helpful. We camped here for almost 3 weeks in our tent. We can highly recommend the place.

Reviews were spot on. Carlos is a great guy and a very meticulous mechanic. He pulled out our whole front axles out to fix a broken 4 wheel drive system. He has a great assistant that is a magician on the metal lathe and made us a piece that was broken from scratch. We camped out there for a week while they worked on our truck. There’s a toilet and warm shower. Be advised that I would describe Carlos as a semi retired mechanic. He is quite slow and methodical. If you have a simple problem and want it done quick don’t come here. If it’s complicated and you don’t trust the local mechanics, then this is your guy. If you’re planning to store here be advised that it may take 2 weeks to pause TIP and another week or ten days to reactivate it when you return. It’s quite far from the airport and although the little town is safe and has restaurants/markets it’s quite dusty and noisy all night with traffic.

Checking in again with a timestamp in Dec just to show that I was here in Dec (to pick up the car) and that everything is still good/open!

Carlos is such a nice guy. We left our car here for six months when we went to Europe. The rate is good (approx. $60 USD per month) and his friend Ernesto helped us with the suspension and levantamiento de suspension of the TIP.

There were many other foreign autos here. Also, Carlos washed our car for us which we very nice as Peru is a very dusty place! He also started the engine for us a few times to make sure the battery didn't die.

It's a little far from Lima, but it only cost us 50 soles to ride here in a taxi, so it's not too bad.

If you have more Qs about our process you can reach out to us here: https://www.facebook.com/drawn.2.the.light/

Carlos not only offers great Car and Truck service he also offers long term parking and TIP suspension. See below the procedure we followed with our friend Ernesto
TIP SUSPENSION in Peru.

a month ago we were able to get our second 180 days TIP without any issues in Peru. In fact, we even met an overlander Perry Rodan who received a 12 Month TIP. Wish we would have met him before. So never take no for an answer.
This time we had to suspend our TIP in Peru. Having seen Jan Van Bekkum face book entry we contacted Ernesto. [email protected] in Lima who also is a mutual friend of our Dutch friend in Lima and Carlos where we parked our truck in 2018. Due to direct access to international flights we prefer Lima over Cusco (quinta LaLa)
Having learned over the last 15 years overlanding that dealing with the government online or face to face was always difficult we decided to use Ernesto (He charges 80.00USD per vehicle) for this money he will do all the paperwork and organizes the police to inspect your vehicle at the nominated parking spot. This inspection took 1 hour and the rest of the day you have to yourself. The following day Ernesto checked with police if the report was ready for Sunat. It was. And we made appointment with Ernesto at Sunat at 3PM. By far the biggest obstacle is the drive from Chacalao to the sunat office in Lima, (30KM) took 2.5 hours in disorganized traffic.
Once at the Sunat office you need to show your ID and the paperwork get stamped.
Summary / Timeframe
1 hour for police inspection. We asked and received for 290 days and where never asked why. However, I supported this on the police report that we had to return to Australia for an operation.
Next 10 minutes*1 at Sunat to identify myself and the stamp (no need to take your vehicle)
In a nutshell except from the long drive to town and back you can stay on the parking lot while Ernesto does all the work. Very simple very relaxed.
To summarize if you decide to use Ernesto
1. Contact Ernesto he owns a tour company so give him notice
2. Ernesto will contact you and will requires copies of our vehicle papers, copy licence, copy passport driver.
3. Ernesto will set up contract for Carlos, so he becomes authorized the official location for your truck
4. Ernesto will do all paperwork for the police
5. Police will inspect vehicle and do report
6. Police will email report to Sunat, (To speed up the process we picked up the paperwork ourselves next morning)
7. Taxi to Sunat office, carry all vehicle paperwork, carry TIP, Police paperwork and sunat paperwork. All is filled out by Police and Ernesto all you must do is sign.
8. Join the line at the sunat office obtain number and wait for your turn.
9. 10 minutes later you receive a tracking number and paperwork is stamped. You are done.
10. Sunat sent paperwork to the border where you entered.
11. Carlos will receive letter from Sunat that he will not drive the vehicle outside his property and that he is now responsible
12. Carlos signs the paperwork.
13. Approx. 2 weeks later you receive a confirmation.
*1 We have found a great long-term overlanding location at Carlos 4x4 last year in Chacalao. The only problem is the drive from Lima to Chacalao and you must allow at least 1.5 hours but at peak hours up to 2.5 hours. (70-sol one way with Uber)

You can WhatsApp Carlos at +51-956684492 and his business is on I Overlander.
Hope this is of any help for those who let a third party do the work

Cheers
